I feel comfortable sharing my journey here, but not with co-workers who have never experienced obesity,  and the after-effects of losing the weight leaves on your body.

Hi Gracie,

I think we might work at the same place.. people you work with are not your friends or family period.. they are not entitled to the truth, your story, or any answers...Its inappropriate for anyone to ask you about your weight etc..

I often times have said..when they ask.. Have you lost more weight?  ..I say.." Nope,, just lots of toning". I always like to turn it around and say..how is your workouts going?...

Thanks,
Michelle

In my experience it is tricky to walk the line between preserving privacy and seeming like a ***** by not answering. It really depends on the relationship you have with the person and whether or not you think they are being kind or nosey. If the person was someone that I liked, but just didn't want to expose my business to, I realy think if I was asked if I lost more weight I would simply say, "Yes. Thank you for noticing."  That way it is not a lie. You did lose more weight--just not in the conventional fashion and that is not something you have to discuss. If they go on to ask how you did it, etc., then you have to decide if you want to speak to it or not and an answer as simple as, "Lots of hard work." would again suffice and not be entirely untrue--this surgery stuff is hard work!! :)  Or you could laugh it off and say, "Well, I can't give away my secrets." and move onto the next topic of conversation or excuse yourself.

Good luck. I surely don't miss the work place politics!! Being a stay-home mom can be lonely at times, but at least none of my neighbors come knocking on my doors prying into my business! LOL!

Denise - you were exactly right.  I am walking the fine line between privacy and seeming like a *****!  I'm finding most inquiries are from the not-so-close co-workers, etc.  Reminds me of when I originally lost my weight (5+ years ago) and someone I really didn't know saw me at a parent teacher conference.  In the hallway with a lot of parents around it was her "mission" not only to say "oh my gosh, you have lost a TON of weight" loudly, but then kept asking for a total.  It's amazing how some people feel empowered to know every last detail!  And, no I never told her a number.
