i asked my surgen how much did my skin weigh after the tummy tuck and she said they didn't weigh it, she said there was alot of skin but you'll be surprize that it doesn't weigh very much, she said i did such a good job with my weight loss there wasn't any fat to lipo, so i was wondering i see alot of women on here that have lipo done with there plastic surgeries, is that common for women, do you think you got the plastic surgery done to early before you lost enough weight? just wondering.    bobby

I can only answer for myself.  I was at my goal weight before surgery.  Did not have lipo and had enough skin removed during my LBL that I was able to donate it.  Second round 2 days ago was for a revision as my skin laxity was an issue with saddlebags.  I did have very localized lipo just at that area (approx. 3 x 3 ") and an outer thigh lift.  I'm not sure about other Plastic Surgeons and their requirements - but mine required a certain BMI before he would consider surgery.

My plastic surgeon said that 1 pound of fat is about the size of a loaf of bread -- just for a little perspective.  I had a TT and upper thigh lift done in April and had 17 pounds of fat/skin removed from my belly/pubic area and about 1 pound from each thigh.  I had a BL/BL done just before Thanksgiving and had another 3 pounds removed from my back and about 2 pounds from the breasts.  I have a picture of the back "fat" in my photos -- its crazy (and gross).

My plastic surgeon wants patients to be weight stable for 6 months before surgery.  I had exceeded my WLS surgeon's goal weight and was close to my personal goal (which I obtained after plastics).

They always do a pathology report after these types of surgery and would weigh everything then.  You an request surgical and pathology notes from your surgeon and that would tell you the wieght.

I know I had mine done to late because I was 25 pounds lighter at one point 1 1/2 years after my WLS. I'm 255 now and my surgeon speculated I could get a back excision & arms. Flankoplasty (love handles) with lipo and do half a LBL around the back & area above the groin. With all that she said there is at least 10 pounds there. Not counting getting my legs done but I'm short 25 grand right now so all that is on hold.

Some people can follow the rules to a t and never get to a "normal" BMI. And some who do lose all their excess weight do not lose all the fat in certain places and need lipo. That's true for non-WLS people, too. It's what lipo was invented to take care of.

I had 2 square feet of skin removed (about an 8 inch wide strip all around my body) that weighed about 5 pounds.

It sounds like you are being very judgemental, so you may want to rephrase your thoughts in the future.

My surgeon told me that I could get my LBL as long as I was within 10% of my goal weight, which I was. He said that loosing the remaining 10/15lbs wouldn't make my skin an droopier.  After surgery he told me he knew I was going to ask how much skin he had removed so he weighed it: 8lbs. I forget how much he lipoed out but the total of what he removed put me so close to my goal weight that I actually decided to lower my goal weight so I could loose an extra 10lbs. I think it all depends on how much a person must lose and how their pre-surgery body was affected by that weightloss. One thing I learned is fat cells cannot be lost, they just shrink. Even though I had exercised, eaten right and lost 100 lbs I still had an excess of fat, especially packed in where my skin was hanging around.

This post reminded me of an article I had saved on my computer. I thought it was pretty interesting and informative so I hope you don't mind that I included the link. It discusses types of fat, obesity, weightloss and liposuction.

I was at goal when I had my plastics.

Phase 1 my PS removed 7 pounds with my LBL.  I added implants, and saw about a 3-5 pound reduction on the scale, and went from a size 10 to a size 6/8.

Phase 2 was an inner thigh lift. He lipo'd and removed a total of 4 pounds from my thighs, which I definitely see on the scale.

My weight was stable for about 4-6 months before plastics, and I lost and am maintaining an additional 10 pounds off since plastics.
