Panniculectomy/Abdominoplasty and TriCare

I just spoke with my primary provider regarding getting my tummy issues fixed. (I have lost about 200 pounds since having RNY gastric bypass in 2007) My PCP said she has never seen TriCare cover this medical procedure, but I have heard of it being done a lot after gastric bypass. Anyone out there have experience with this?

I had my RNY done at Madigan Army Medical Center, I am wondering if I went through the Military Treatment Facility if I would have a better chance of approval. My PMC is submitting the referral with details of my chronic skin issues, scarring, and whatnot in hopes of improving the odds. Any tips or advice?

You need to check out TriCare.com. They do pay for some of the surgery if not all. I am not sure of the criteria but I looked into it as well. I however don't feel that I would meet there criteria so I am paying out of pocket. Good luck and let me know what you find out.

Tricare prime paid for mine!!!  Had surgery 6 months ago and  they paid for everything!

How did you get your paid for though TriCare? I haven't heard how to get it approved or anything

Tricare also paid for my abdominoplasty and that was in 2006.  They do it on a case-by-case basis, but your case sounds really good.  I did mine through the surgeon who did my RNY.   Just do what you're doing now and it sounds like it will get approved ~ appeal it, if it gets denied.

Awesome! Thanks for the replies. I looked at their website and it looks like I fit the criterea so I am optimistic and will definitely appeal if I am denied.
