Besides, what I brought for my RNY surgery, anything special that helped you while in recovery?

Thanks,
Michelle

My 5 yr old son helped with this posting.. :)

Hahaha- I love your son's addition.

These are the things I found I needed and used the most (some were more useful during my hospital stay):
- Bottle of water
- Cottonelle wet wipes (These are amazing for freshening you up and can be used on the body or face, after going to the bathroom-they flush or just as hand wipes. They are gentle and don't contain soap or alcohol).
- Colgate Wisps (Little mini travel toothbrush/mints that are perfect for a quick freshening fix).
- Hand Sanitizer
- Moisturizer (My skin got super dry after surgery especially with my compression garments).
- Chapstick
- Extra Strength Tylenol and Tylenol PM
- Kleenex
- Dulcolax (But really... I think I've repeated that so many times when I post and I can not stress it enough. I have dealt with the outcome of not being able to go to the bathroom after my knee surgery and I don't recommend that experience to anyone).
- Wet Heat Compress (This was recommended by my surgeon and helped with swelling and relaxed my muscles, which decreased my pain. I used homemade ones but finally just bought a large pack from MediBeads that was big enough to cover my whole tummy and you just plop it in the microwave).
- Shower Stool (Helpful, obviously not necessary. I happened to have one in my house and it was nice to be able to have some extra support when I felt tired).
- Pillows (Just have a bunch of extras so you can shove them anywhere and prop your body every which way it feels the most comfortable).

Make sure you have something that can keep you busy- like a good book or maybe watch a season (or three) of a tv show you've always wanted to watch. It's also helpful to have protein rich snacks around because after my surgery I found that all I wanted was something salty or chocolaty... or both, like peanut M&Ms. So I stocked my fridge with hummus and yogurt and cottage cheese, bought an unhealthy amount of lentil soup and garbanzo beans and also had some easy to prepare veggies (cucumbers, baby carrots). I also found that if I started to get a sweet tooth sugar free popsicles or jello were wonderful.

Above all just remember to keep yourself comfortable, rested and entertained after surgery. It's very important to remember that sometimes it's ok to be selfish so don't worry about making people help you with stuff or asking for a foot massage... for the swelling of course ;)

I hope your cold is better! Good luck with everything!!
