Crisis averted...for now!

Okay, so today is a smiley face guy because I am feeling much better about things. This one will be long, but not as long as yesterday's cluster!

Got a call this a.m. from the nurse to come into the office to see the surgeon this afternoon. When I saw him he had a very concerned look about him and he asked to take a look. Well as soon as he saw me the look of concerned was gone immediately. He palpated me all over from my just below my boobs down to my lady bits in the front, down both sides to my mid thigh, and all across my back. He said there were only the two seromas with aspiratable pockets on the flanks in the back. He said that what the nurse thought were seromas were not anything more than soft tissue swelling--no pockets of fluid to be aspirated. Lucky me--I just happen to have enough residual laxity that my skin has a ripple effect that mimics the look of fluid movement. I'll take that over 7 seromas any day! He said I had absolutely no signs of infection nor did he anticipate my developing any issues related to infection. He did say that if I were to become feverish or felt unwell or if I noticed any redness or additional swelling to call and he would get me a prescription ASAP. He said he does not make it a practice to give antibiotics prophylactically in cases such as this. He did say that had he known about the insurance problem, he would not have suggested the ultrasound guided deal. He just thought that would be a quick and easy way to ease my mind and tend to the seromas all in one fell swoop. He did say that if I continue to have issues, he will make certain they code the ultrasound so it is diagnostic and impossible for them not to cover (once the union reinstates my health benefits that is!). I was thrilled when he confirmed what I originally thought he'd said when he pulled my drain and that is that he is equipped in the office to do a drain catheter placement and that if it became necessary, he can also inject a sclerosing agent (which helps the walls of the pocket adhere to one another) right in the office as well. I had high hopes that he'd step up and that is exactly what happened. He was ultra apologetic that I had to stress even one day, but I realize that there is nothing that he could do until he could see me.

He aspirated both pockets again and got 40cc and 30cc respectively. I'm wearing an ultra-tight compression garment from my mid waist to my mid thigh. He asked me to take it easy for the next week or so. He's going to see me back in 2 weeks unless I notice the fluid reaccumulating before then and if that happens he'll see me right away.

So at this point I am feeling much calmer about the fact that I won't be using up a large portion of my childrens' college fund, but more importantly that I am not at any imminent risk of needing costly, invasive interventions.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers and encouragement to kick some butt if I had to. Thankfully I didn't--yet!!!

Have a great evening all!!

Denise
