I'm glad that at least something good is coming of this- you should love that drain girlie!! I am not on antibiotics, but will be asking about that tomorrow. Funny thing is that they seem very casual at my PS office about it. Wondering if they just went ahead and ordered the guided deal thinking I had insurance that would cover it and that way I could get the fluid off easier and sooner and that perhaps it isn't a huge emergency. Everything I read on the internet completely contradicts the next thing I read on the internet. Seromas will reabsorb on their own, they won't, they must be drained, they don't need to be, you have to have ultrasound guided aspiration, go in blind, or just put a drain back in--or not. Ugh!

I do appreciate the reminder that my health is much more important than money. That can get lost when you are facing down an unexpected financial issue that costs what a year of private school for my kid would cost! I will do whatever I need to, but will definitely be pressing them for lots of answers.

I am worth it (sounding like a cosmetic commercial--LOL!).

Trying to keep my chin up!

I am so sorry to have to go through this right now, this just stinks is what it does. I'm going to put myself in your shoes here for a second (with my clown feet this might hurt) and try think what I would do. Far be it from me to offer advice but here's my 2 cents.

Number 1 you paid this guy 23K and aftercare is free so need to work that like a 2 dollar _____ on payday.

Number 2 this sounds serious enough to me that delaying this sort of thing till you have insurance may not be a wise move even if you have had it for a while now. The anxiety alone would drive me nutso waiting for insurance to kick in, and I would be back in bed with the Kernel really quick like.

Number 3 I would at least get the the Ultrasound guided mapping done, to know for sure what your dealing with so you don't end up taking a knife to a gun fight.

Number 4 If you have to go the hospital route negotiate those fees up front like you mentioned, if they get there cash upfront they are more likely to work WITH YOU than against you if you pay after the fact.

Number 5 It's easy to spend somebody else's money, but you have come to far in this venture now to risk something bad happening to you. (Who would I pick on?)

Number 6 If you can at all get a 2nd opinion from your GP or someone *****ally knows something more than people on a message board do it!

I'm gonna need a lot more than 2 cents!

In order:

1. If someone can work it like a $2 ___ on payday, it's me, although now I'll just have a little swoosh to go with my swagger.

2. If they indicate that it is emergent, I will definitely not be able to wait. I'd be as anxiety ridden as you said you'd be. I'm a worrier, especially about health stuff. HATE this.

3. Agreed. I would at least want some pepper spray like they use on the Occupy Wall Streeters.

4. See #1. Wait, that won't work. It is interesting that both you and Lizzie know of the negotiating thing. I'll definitely be barking up that tree if it comes to it. I'm thinking the ass chewing I gave the insurance company guy will have my insurance reinstated sooner than later.

5. Awwww again. I promise, I'll be smart, not cheap. I only get one go around on this here planet. and I'd rather not float away from the inside out.

6. Definitely on my agenda for first thing in the a.m. I have a very good relationship with my doctor and I'm sure she'll have some good advice.  You mean my message board buds don't know everything? Damn. I was going to ask for advice on how to do a quadruple bypass. Maybe I'll hold off on that!

Thanks Bubs. I knew you were good for something!! :)

Oh, and just as a sidenote, my insurance DID pay for my ultrasound, because my doctor ordered it under the heading of "diagnosis: abdominal pain". (Which is absolutely true, they already knew I had hematomas but wanted to find anything else that might be causing the pain). I wonder if your doctor would be willing to do something similar, which might be just vague enough to slip past insurance without being fraud?? I don't know if it's safe for you to wait a whole week for your insurance to kick back in though. If the doctor thinks it's safe to wait, you've got nothing to lose by trying.

Good to know! I was thinking that if it was coded as a diagnostic tool then they'd pay it. I mean, these aren't the sharpest tools in the shed anyway and I'd think it is arguable that this far out from surgery it wouldn't be a given that continued pain would be a function of the surgery. It would at least be appealable.

I'll wait if the doc says it's safe. Otherwise, I'll do whatever he suggests.

Thanks!!

After all of that high expense talk from the docs I would have gone with flame face.   I agree that this should be covered in aftercare if that was was what you were told before your surgery.  PS docs are well compensated and should follow through with their patients.

He's been great so far, so I can't imagine him dropping the ball now. He's a very reasonable guy, so hopefully he can offer a somewhat conservative, but safe treatment plan.

I think you are right--flame face is probably more appropriate!
