Happy Thanksgiving--but not thankful for seromas!!!

First, I have to say a great big thanks to all of you. I am truly thankful for your support. This board and all of its participants have really helped keep me off the ledge. Well, I've been on the ledge, but have been talked down repeatedly, so thanks for that.

Now for what I'm not thankful for. I think I have discovered two big seromas at my flanks. I was getting out of the shower yesterday and was in all my birthday suit glory. Well I thought I noticed an area of fullness at my right flank. Granted, at first I was all like, "damn girl, rock the junk in your trunk." Then I pressed it. It looked like when you sit on a waterbed and I felt a big swoosh go around to my stomach and then saw a lump appear at my stomach. It disappeared as soon as I let go. Made me feel a bit like I was going to puke. Then I started to look at the other side. Same thing. I think I have mentioned (probably 49 times) this pulling, tearing sensation that I have when I stand up. Well I paid close attention today when I stood up out of bed and it is primarily at the flanks and thighs. I am almost hopeful that it is, in fact, seromas and that once they remedy them then I'll not have that tearing pain anymore. And I'm hopeful that some of the fluid is in my thighs.

I'm a little pissed because if that stupid nurse from last time had been a little busier checking thoroughly for seromas and a little less busy trying to convince me that I ought to be grateful for what he was able to do with my former trainwreck, then this could have been tended to sooner than the 2 weeks it will wind up being from when I saw her until Tuesday when he is back in town. Now if these aren't seromas then I'm going to be eating a little crow. I'm going to be full from turkey, so I won't have much room for crow! And there is also the possibility that it is just severe swelling and it might just have to run its course.

I'll let y'all know how it goes. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Denise

I really hope you are wrong on the seromas, that's the last thing you need right now. As long as we had those stupid drains in you would think there wouldn't be any water left in our bodies.

Your birthday was a month ago it's my turn for birthday jokes now. Hope everything works out ok.

Happy T-Day

Oh noooooooo! From the way you describe it it doesn't sound like swelling, it sounds exactly like a seroma. So the rippling goes all the way around?? Wow, I was under the impression that they were more limited like little round collections, rather than a waterbed type deal. I don't know if it's better if it's a seroma, because although that really sucks it's totally treatable and should resolve with aspiration, or if it'd be better if it were something else. Regardless it STINKS!! Are you still on antibiotics? You might want to ask them about calling you in some while you're waiting to see the doc because seromas can be an infection risk. Not as much of a risk right now for you because you haven't had any needles put into it and it's still a closed system. But be careful and watch yourself!

Tis the Season for complications, it seems!

I too thought a seroma was a little hard spot, but this is most of my flanks probably across part of my lower back and when I press it goes around front to about 1/2 way to my belly button. I agree if it can be drained I'll be thrilled! Now if the start talking reinserting drains we're gonna battle!!

Complainers here we come!!!

Sttitch spitting is common, and the issue is what type of stitch and what to do about it.  Some dissolve quickly.  Local wound care is usually all that's needed to prevent the open spot from becoming infected.

The "waterbed" effect may be a seroma on the lower abdomen, and an ultrasound will sort that out quickly.  Most docs opt to drain these sooner than later. John LoMona

Hey girley,

Damnit it does sure sound like a seroma. Well, it is easily treated, that's one good thing. Damn that " B" for not paying closer attention to you.

I saw her for my follow up the other day. I was ready, if she was a " B" to me. But she was ok. Please follow up with them as soon as possible. Keep us posted .

Don't worry and enjoy your holiday

I'll be praying for it to just be swelling! Try not to stress over it until your appointment.  Just try to enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving weekend!
