Compressions stockings

Did you wear them?  What kind?  How long did you wear them?  etc etc etc   :)

I'm having  LBL, Thighs, Arms, Breasts done on December 9th in Mexico with Dr. Sauceda.  I'm wondering if the stockings really help with swelling and clots.

What do you all think?

They do help prevent blood clots, and I wore them for a week after my surgery. Be careful though because if they're too tight through the front of the ankle, they can cause swelling and pain in your foot. I had that happen to me, my ankles swelled up and they thought it might be a blood clot. It was actually swelling caused by the socks. Oops. So you have to be sure to get ones that fit you well. And take them off to massage your legs once a day. I used the ones my surgeon gave me right before surgery but I don't know if yours will give you any. You could just use diabetic socks probably, those do the same thing. You might wanna get 2 pairs so you can wash one pair, mine were pretty ripe after a week.

I also forgot to mention that the ultrasound technician who checked me for blood clots said that the socks definitely helped prevent clots and it was good I was wearing them, she recommended wearing them for as long as I was spending most of the day sedentary.

Good to know.  I'll get some, even if just for the plane ride home from Mexico and for a few days leading up to my flights.  I want to be sure I don't give those nasty clots time to form.

I'll look for some diabetic sox.  I think I'll be wearing a binder that comes down to my calves.

Golly, thank you so much!  I'm a happy camper and looking forward to when all of this surgery stuff is behind me.

Hi Patty,

I'm really excited, nervous, scared, happy, anticipating.  You name it, I have it going on!  Me first, then you!  Are you starting to get excited too?

I'll get some stockings today.  Not sure what to look for but I'll drop by Walgreen's or CVS and look around.  How high up should they go on my leg?  I've not worn them since my ankle surgery so I'm clueless and don't remember anything about them.

I wore mine for about a week. They were remarkably comfortable and I preferred to have them on. I had the ones they gave me from the hospital. The were the white kind (TED stockings I think) and had an opening at the toes. If I felt hot I'd pop my toes out of the end--not sure that will be an issue where you'll be. I did lots of ankle twirling, flexing and relaxing of calf muscles too. Definitely do the exercises on the plane ride.

Not long now lady!!! Are you getting excited, nervous?

Denise, I'm excited and trying to distract myself.  My son was home last week and we spent 4 days up at the Napa Valley Film Festival.  That was the best distraction in the world.  Now I'm distracting myself with lots of Zumba and Pilates.  I feel like i have to keep moving and seeing friends when I'm not working so that I don't sit and dwell on this.   Today I'm going to start getting things that are on my list of Mexico prep, like big safety pins for the drains etc.

I have my friend Nancy going with me so I'll put that on her list to remind me to walk on the plane and do leg, foot exercises.

How does it feel being drain free?  :)
