Itchy, sore, hypersensitive scars...

Anyone else out there with super sensitive, itchy scars?

My arm scars have gone very keloid. (pics on profile).  Twice (I had a revision in August).  Both times, about 3-4 months out, they got VERY sensitive and sore.  And ITCHY!  The damn things drive me nuts.  I wear compression sleeves during the day for scar prevention (haha), and that helps the itching a little bit - and puts a layer over them that makes them not SCREAM when I accidently scratch them.
Both scars (the less and more keloid one) hurt the same - as a matter of fact, the lesser scar might hurt a bit more.

Anybody else have this?  Or am I weird?  If you did - did it ever go away?  I was 9 months out at my revision, and didn't have any relief yet...

Yes!  There are some really good prescription (at least here in the U.S.) creams that I dabbed on my WLS scars twice a day.  They help reduce the scarring and relieve the itching and pulling.  Ask your plastic surgeon if he recommends a topical cream for it.

Good to know. I'll definately ask. Do you know the name of the cream you use?

I'm just over 19 months post lap RNY and the lap camera incision( the lowest and biggest one) is a very thin keloid, but is still red and super sensitive, even painful sometime still.  If I accidentally bump or scratch it, Ouch!  No signs of it improving unfortunately.

I'm hoping to get lbl and bl/br within the next year or so and am very concerned about the scar becoming keloids.  I don't care about having scars, but painful keloids is a huge concern.

My surgeon told me that if you get keloid in one place you are more likely to get keloids with further surgery. About The horizontal incision didn't go keloid for me, and only a couple very small (and not painful) spots on my breast incisions. My vertical scar from my TT and my arms did. Both are sore and itchy.

Very interesting with the different areas going keloid.

My 4 other incisions, are paper thin and almost completely faded, albeit they were very small to begin with.  I wonder if some of it has to do with degree of skin laxity and blood supply?

I've often wondered if the horizontal scar healed so nicely because of the pretty much constant pressure of my waistband?  Even the lowest part of the vertical scar is flat and white.  But bellybutton up is red and raised.

And I wonder if the breast scars are healing nicely because there really isn't any pressure or pulling on them at all...But the scars under my armpits are also flat and white - almost invisible...and that's an area of considerable pull...

It is interesting for sure!

Have you seen a dermatologist about the scars? Did your PS discuss cortisone injections with you? Keloids are a bummer, I'm so sorry. Maybe you could try putting some mild numbing cream on them in the short term? I know those need to be used sparingly but maybe it could provide some relief.

I haven't.  He told me at 6 weeks out to just be patient and wait - that they  need time to heal.  Now I'm over 3 months, with no real change.  He wants me back for a follow-up before Christmas, so I'll go and we will be chatting about options.

I am glad to hear I'm not the only one with bothersome scars though!
