LBL question

Happy Sunday all! I have a LBL question. I had my LBL 2 weeks ago come this Thursday. I have a lot of swelling which I expected but I was wondering how many of you had severe lower back/back swelling? From my incision up, my back is flat as a board, and I am used to having a pretty nice curve with well....a butt LOL.

Did anyone experience this, if so when did it go away, at least a little? It's making all of my clothes fit horribly and I'm hating my results if this is what is to stay :(

Thanks for your help!

I would give it some time.  It really takes a while for the lymphatic system to figure out what to do w/the extra fluid.  I did not have swelling there, but did in my upper stomach, still will if I've had alot of sodium during the day or eaten too much.  It can take several months for all the swelling to finally give up!  Hang in there, your still pretty soon out from your surgery date!

Hi. I had exactly what you are describing. It reallly bugged the heck out of me. My surgeon saw it and understood my concern, but assured me that it would subside. Mine was more centrally located (about a 4" wide area of swelling just above my "crack" that went up to about my waist) so I did have some cut at the sides of my lower back. Anyway, it was so bad that I was putting a pair of folded socks against the area for additional counter pressure under my compression garment. Fast forward to now, 7 weeks post op. It is much improved. I am finally not feeling like I have this lump at my lower back. I know what you mean about clothes. I bougth the cutest sweater dress a few weeks ago, but was feeling self concious about how it looked when lying against my back. I wore it yesterday with no problems. The area still isn't the sexy little curve in like I'd like, but I do have the natural curve at my butt again. Do you have the phenomena where your crack goes above the incision? Just after the surgery I was sure I'd gained an extra 3" of crack, but that has subsided for the most part too.

I'm sure yours will resolve soon enough. Keep that compression on it. If I can find any good pics of my before and now I will send them, but I was pretty sure to keep that area out of the sight line of a camera.

Take care!

Denise
