10 day check up
Saw my Dr today. He says everything looks great. He mentioned a "pocket" of fluid right above my mons. Can't see it myself. He said if it's still there at my next appt (11-11-11) he may remove it with a needle. Anyone heard of this?
Anyway, he said I should stop using my foam and my binder. I have become very attached to my foam and did not want to throw it out....for some reason I had it in my head that the binder would really hurt without the foam cushion. I obediently threw the foam in the office garbage and came home. I had bought 3 spanx type garments. They are NOT comfortable at all in fact by the time I actually got one on I felt like I couldn't even breathe! I have several tank top like ones; does anyone think they would work? I don't know how far down they would go but my lipo was on upper abdomen, lower abdomen and flanks.
And finally, sorry in advance if TMI, but before my appt I had noticed what looked like a small piece of tape in my new belly button. The nurse took it out at the Dr instructions and holy mother there was a LOT of disgusting....stuff....in there. Surgical tape? Don't know but (embarassing) it smelled horrible.....the nurse was laughing her butt off at my awkward apologies.. ...she says its old blood and stuff, that the Dr puts it in there to hold the circular shape of the navel so it does not fold onto itself and heal that way......now that you are all done laughing at me and my embarassing moment....
I feel really pretty good. I can stand upright. My body definitely tells when it's had too much and is time for a rest. My clothes, which I had big dreams of falling off me are unbelieveably tight with the binder on. What a let down. I know, I know, the swelling does go down. Am I supposed to wear a compression garment 100% of the time?
Best wishes to all

Congrats on your healing. The fluid build up is likely a seroma -- which is a collection of fluid (normal) built up and not absorbing back into the tissue as it should. I had one in my thigh. My doc drained it with a needle -- it took a few times, maybe 3, and then it never came back. Doesn't hurt a bit, only took a second.
I wore my compression garment 24-7 for 4 months and then for the better part of a day for a few months after that. Mr doc said that the compression helps the tissue build a "memory" and for that kind of money I wanted it to remember to be as firm and well shaped as possible! My doc gave me some pieces from Marena they were pretty nice and they have a whole yoga compression line as well for when you are a little further down the road. They are kind of pricey but my doc sells them to his patients at his cost which is a discount from the straight retail.
I really expected a more dramatic result right after surgery -- he took 17 pounds from my belly and mons area and another 1 pound from the top of each thigh. It really took a good 4 months for the majority of the swelling to subside and by then I had dropped 2 sizes! So wait for it!

Thanks for the response - perhaps I need to buy larger spanx? I just don't see myself being able to sit in them for the entire day!
Also the last few days I have woken up with intense heartburn. What's up with that? I actually managed to sleep kinda on my side last night for the first time since surgery but this heartburn is really hurting!
Time to go hunt down the Rolaids

Linda, it sounds like you're doing a great job with the healing. You must be so excited to be moving forward.
I've been wondering about those Spanx type garments. I have Flexee cami's and can barely get them off and on and I haven't had surgery yet. I feel like I'm wrestling a tiger trying to get it over my head and off. There's no way I'd be able to do that with arm limitations!
I'm so glad the nurse was laughing and helped you through what felt like a really embarrassing moment! :)

Good morning Lee
Yes I can understand that it would be difficult if not impossible to take the cami on and off after arm surgery. I guess I am going to have to go and see if I can buy larger garments. I just don't see how I am going to wear them all day long - the ones I have now are just too tight!
And yes the nurse thought it was funny and probably deals with it daily unlike me - how did all that FIT in there? My new belly button is quite small and dainty; at least I thought so lol
