REVISIONS?

I am going back and forth with the idea of possibly having a 2nd revision on my tummy tuck due to, yet again, some elasticity around the middle. It's not horrendous but never the less it's there and somewhat bothers me. I went for a consult to a PS who I saw advertised on this site. He told me that revisions are more common with us moreso than with "normal" weight loss people. Is this true and is there anyone here who has gone through more than one revision?

Please advise.

Thanks

I haven't had my TT yet (friday! woo!) but my plastic surgeon said the same exact thing. He said that our skin has lost all elasticity and it's very common to need revisions after the first procedure has healed. They can't pull us absolutely board-flat because too much pressure on the incision line can lead to tissue necrosis or split incisions. So really they have to balance the excess skin while leaving enough 'give' to allow for adequate blood flow to the remaining skin that's been pulled. I'm expecting that I'll need a revision after my initial TT, partly for this reason, but also partly because I'm still about 10lb away from my goal weight so it'll probably loosen up a bit after I lose those 10lb. I've just been waiting so long that I couldn't wait any longer to get rid of my 'apron'!

If you've got the money and the time, then go for it. You deserve a flat stomach after all the years of being fat!!

Thanks for your reply.  I'm still waiting to hear how much it will be, but time may not be on my side, plus I am still deciding whether I want to go through anymore surgery so I will see. I am also thinking what if this happens again another 2 years down the road.  Lots of luck to you for Friday, are you having the full blown muscle tightening?

Btw, you look great!

I would agree that after weight loss patients have a higher rate of revision. WIthout knowin the speciifics, it is difficult to know why you need a second revision. You should talk to your PS who did the original surgery regarding this since they may offer you a discount or waive the surgeon's fee for the revision. Each surgeon's policy is different.

I do a lot of revision from other plastic surgeons and bariatric surgeons doing "plastic surgery procedures." Most commonly, patients are not happy with residual fullness in the pubic region, a bad belly button, and loosening of the skin.

Good luck.

I was hoping a Dr would see this. I did go back to my Dr a few months ago who told me nothing more could be done, although he did do the 1st revision for free after only 9 months. His policy is within the year. I doubt very much this new one I saw would do it for free, I do know he has a discount on revisions and am waiting to hear back from his office soon. I am still deciding if I want to do anything more plus knowing this elasticity can come back a couple years down the road.. I guess once I know how much it is then I can make my decision.  So far it's been a little over a week since I saw him and haven't heard anything back yet, so maybe the Universe is trying to tell me something!!!!

Thanks

Thanks for your reply.  I don't think I want to spend anymore money on consults as they can get expensive. I didn't gain any weight from my TT but did have swelling which lasted for about a year and I still see some of it to be honest.  I am just waiting to hear how much this may cost and then make my decision from there, but to be honest I really don't think I want anymore surgery.  I feel and look good, and know I'm not going to have that perfect 18 year old body again.  Luckily I am still on track and still able to wear my size 4 pants at almost 6 years out so not bad I guess!!

Thanks again and will keep you updated of my decision.

Take care
