Not to sound like a lush, but...

I'm 2.5 weeks out from a LBL and doing really well.  I'm going a bit stir crazy since I'm so used to running around all day, but I've been filling my time with a new addiction to pinterest.com.  I keep seeing a recipe for Skittle infused vodka on there.  It looks so bright and colorful, and I would like to try it someday.  But that got me thinking, how long did you guys wait before drinking alcohol after surgery?

I plan on asking my doctor at my next follow-up on Tuesday, but I figured it's best to get your suggestions (or warnings) first.  I don't plan on drinking for several more weeks at the earliest, but I worry about making a move to hurt myself like pulling a muscle or opening my incision.

I haven't had any complications, and my drains came out at exactly a week.  I only took Percocet for the first 4 days, then switched to Tylenol so I could feel human again.  Right now, the only pain I have is usually muscle pain that I feel near my ribcage when sleeping or first thing in the morning.  (I am trying to fight the urge to toss and turn while I sleep, but that's hard to do while asleep!)

Just wondering what your experiences were...

Don't know if this will help you, I am four years out, had arm plastics one year out, and then a corset trunk plasty one year five months ago.....the pain was terrible from that surgery, but now would I do it again, yes, but as far as the booze.....I moved to florida last year as a snow bird for six months,,,,everyone down there has happy hour......well I never drank before surgery because didn't like wine...now I love it.......went down real easy, real fast, and a cheap date too...but I did get hooked, went from food to wine.......gained nine pounds real fast and lost allot of time in memory and only telling you this because it is a fact that we are addictive people, and I am so grateful that I caught my new addiction in the butt.......it has taken me six months to loose four of those pounds and it is a struggle everyday.....and before when I was one year out and two years out someone told me the same story and I said....not me....I don't like wine......or drinking....well I learned never say never again............I still love wine, but I know I love my new body more......hope your pain goes away fast.................and bless you on your journey

I had gastric bypass 2 years ago.

Have not touched alcohol since.

Empty calories I don't need.

I would wait 6 weeks after surgery to drink alcohol...and then go slow.  Don't start with vodka.  Have one glass of wine,  go slow...

Slow is definitely the plan!  If I've learned anything in the last 3 years, it's "Everything in moderation."

I'm still adjusting to a new tolerence level as it is since I could drink a ton and feel fine in my 300+ pound days.  I haven't had a drink since a wedding in August, so I'm definitely going to have to start small!  Luckily I only really have a drink or two on special occasions, since they are empty calories.  It's a nice treat every now and then though for all of my hard work monitoring my food and time in the gym :)
