Does anyone here have a Health Savings Account?

I know I can't use HSA money to fund pastic surgery, but has anyone used it to pay for associated costs like painkillers, gauze, or something related to after care? Would that be an accepted use of HSA funds?

My insurance approved my upcoming procedure and I used my Medical Flexible Spending Account to pay my out of pocket portions.

I can only use my HSA money for things related to my abdominoplasty as that is the only thing insurance covered. Don't get me wrong, they have paid for ALL medications as there is no record of what I am taking the meds for when they get the bill. Also, the gauze etc. I have had covered. The one thing they would not cover was compression garments for ANYTHING except abdominoplasty.

Darn, I was thinking about using the money for compression garments too. I don't think anything will be covered by my insurance, so it sounds like that chances I can dip into my HSA are nil. I've been thinking about just withdrawing the money and paying the penalty and taxes, but I guess I'll wait on that until I absolutely need the money. Thanks!

I used my HSA for pre-labs, pain meds and my visit to my PCP to get my stitches out.  I think you can use your HSA for vitamins until the end of the year, then you'll need a script.  I did a big order w/Vitalady.

I received 2 sets of garments with Dr Sauceda.

That's really what I was hoping I could do. I never use my HSA and I'll be going self-pay for my plastics, so it'd be nice to dip into those funds to off-set some of the expenses. I guess it's a matter of the IRS checking in with me to see what I spent that money on, but maybe it won't be a problem so long as I use my HSA debit card at the doctor's office and pharmacy. Hopefully. *fingers crossed*
