Talk to me about NEEDLES! (brachio)

So I scheduled my extended brachio for 12/21. 78 more days.

I want this SO MUCH... and yet now the reality of it all is setting in.

I'm terrified of needles. So I want to know...

Other than the pre-op blood work and the IV, what needles should I be expecting? (Think worst-case senario!)

(I'm doing it inder general anesthesia if that matters.)

Needles are not that bad, you only feel a slight pinch for a second. When I woke up I didn't have any.

Thanks. I'm really just trying to figure out how many we're talking about. I have EMLA cream for the blood test and IV, but will there be shots (while I'm awake)? Do they drain anything with needles after?

Some people require to have excess fluids drained with a needle, I didn't, but the ones I hear about, the needle is kinda big and they are aprehensive about it, but when the needle goes in they don't feel it because of the area being so numb. I think you will be fine. The IV was the biggest needle I had and I didn't get any other ones after I was awake. I knew two girls that I work with that had the tummy tuck and breast aug and they didn't have anything drained with a needle afterwards. I think you should be ok, just ask the Plastic Surgeon and I'm sure he or she will put your mind at ease. Besides, the needle is the least of your worries.

With my brachio, I had an IV and that was it.  I had my blood work done in the office.  The IV went right in and no problems afterwards.  Your hands will swell a lot with the extended brachio.  Mine were dreadful, but improved in a few days.  You should do fine.  Just look away and have someone there to distract your attention.  I'm an RN and when I worked Urgent Care, I had a lot of adults who were afraid of needles.  It's really going to be okay and you're going to love your New Arms!

What is an "extended"  brachio?

Probably a good idea to tell the medical folks that you have a fear of needles, so they can help you.

Extended brachio means they cut from the elbow to the armpit, but also address the skin that hangs below the armpit (along the side to where the bottom of a bra would go). Usually it's done by extending the incision through the armpit and down that far, or sometimes they can pull that skin on your side up with a cut across the armpit.
