What is longest you've had drains in for?
I am now over 5 weeks out down to my last drain, putting out almost 70 cc's last 3 days GGRRRRR! I go in monday hopefully it will be pulled then.
I haven't had a shower in this amount of time either and I am growing tired of baby wipes. I am about ready to go grab the saran wrap and head to the car wash and get it over with.

Mine came out at 3 weeks because it started to smell funky.
Even tho' it was still putting out alot- he pulled it.
I had no problems after it came out.
Why no shower Dude?
That's just cruel!
I was instructed to be up and showered the next day after surgery and then daily after that?

I had 2 in for about a week 1/2 - but I was hardly getting anything out of them (thank goodness). I went home the day the drains came out and took a shower! I can't imagine having to go over 5 weeks with no shower. You have to be miserable and I am so sorry you are having to go through this.
I will keep my fingers crossed that your last drain comes out Monday!
Take care!

Surgeon said no shower at all till all drains are out! Believe me I want to take one bad, I don't have kids but I know which baby wipes work and which ones don't by now.
I have kind of been asking family and friends if they think I smell and everybody has said no so far. But the dogs are starting to avoid me at this point so I think somebody is lying :)

Funny the difference in docs, huh?
I was told- you WILL shower daily starting postop Day 1!
(frankly...I did not feel like it!)

About 5 years ago, I started pulling all drains out at 10 days no matter the output, and performed ultrasounds ****ep a machine in my office) to check for fluid collections...very few.
I think that the drain tubes sometimes sit right on top of a lymphatic vessel and will just drain and until the tube comes out. I worry about infection after 2 weeks an of course they are a big nuisance.
Good nutrition, especially protein, may speed healing and help "leaky" patients get their tubes out sooner.

Thank you for that clarity. I'm almost at 14 days post LBL with lipo and two of my drains are still going like crazy (160+ cc) and my other two are getting close (40-60) to the 25cc they recommended, but the insertion sites at my groin is getting "mushy" so I'm prayerful they'll come out sooner than later. I will definitely be discussing this with my surgeon. I'm a bit concerned because they thought I might have seromas at my outer thigh, but attempted aspiration yielded nothing. I hope they have an ultrasound in the office.
Thanks again Doctor.
