New to PS but not to OH - Questions galore
I'm probally going to repeat tons of already asked questions but I'm just a curious little thing. First off it's odd to refer to myself as little!
I've introduced myself before but several months ago. I had my RNY on August 13th 2010, lost 250 lbs and I've exceeded my surgeons goals, only 2 lbs from mine. Bypass surgeon AND two different Plastic surgeons have guestimated 30 or more lbs of skin to be removed. I'm working on getting all the letters to get as much covered by insurance as possible.
My first question is odd..maybe not so much. The reason I want the skin removed is because it's killing my already messed up back (2 back surgeries already prior to RNY) it's just in a higher up spot this time. Chiropractor is getting a letter out to Plastics doc stating its definitely medically necessary and will benefit me in many ways. My insurance will quite possibly refuse the abdominoplasty but all docs involved are sure the panniculectomy will be approved due to the chronic back issues, rashes and seeing as you cant tell if it hangs below the mons because well...you cant even FIND the mons unless I lay down. (TMI..sorry) ANYHOW - - if insurance only approves panniculectomy:plastic surgeon says he will snip the belly button and pull down as much as possible to avoid a huge muffin top at no extra cost. My question is..is it worth it ..I wont be rid of ALL the extra this way..there will only be about 5 lbs of it left though - would you do it to get 20+ lbs off?? There is no way I can finish my medical schooling the condition my back is in currently - I need the excess off so I can return and get a job..THEN I have no problem scrimping and saving for any further excess to be taken off.
Also...in a panniculectomy do they usually do the mons area if it's neccessary? Does everyone need to sleep sitting up in a recliner? I don't have one..should I start looking into getting one once I'm more sure of a date etc? Am I going to want to sleep in the same room as my fiance..we do now but I'm wondering if I will get like super pms-like or something lol. Are the compression garments included or do you have to go buy those prior to surgery? Am I going to want gown type pj's instead of sweatpants?
Oh my ..tons of questions..more than likely already answered on the forum..I DO apologize I'm just so curious and excited to get my back pain at least "sort of" managable. I'm so used to NSAID meds and I cant take em lol

RNY - August 13, 2010
LBL - October 29, 2012
a total of 271 lbs lost!!
Congrats on your weight loss that is awesome. I just had a abdominoplasty done 9 days ago and everything was covered by my insurance. I only got skin rashes and had that all documented. I didnt think they would approve it but they did. My doctor threw in the mons areas but he did say alot of surgeons will only do that for an extra charge. As far as the recliner, I would have been lost without mine...I am still sleeping and spending most of my day on the recliner. Doctor gave me the binder but I did get an extra one so I could wear one while the other one was getting cleaned. I am sure 1 is very doable. I hope everything works out for you and you can start to enjoy all the hard work that you have done. I am so pleased with my stomach, it feels so good to look down and not see that ugly skin hanging. Good Luck!
Hi,
I had done exactly what you asked about. Pannis only insurance paid, she cut around the belly button and pulled down the mons was pulled up no extra charge. My incision is Just a little more than hip to hip and it looks great. I got to keep my belly button so that was awesome too. I have not really taken many pics but I can if you want some. The doctor sent me home with two binders. I am five weeks out and feel great. My weight loss was 140lbs by the way.

Good Communication is key! You must discuss the mons area with your surgeon. Very few will do it with a panni removal. I have seen it not done and it's quite unslightly. Even if you have to pay a little out of pocket, it is worth it. I had my TT done at my cost prior to reaching goal in 2009 because of chronic back pain. My insurance refused to pay it -
I didn't need a recliner and wouldn't purchase one just for my surgery since many said sleeping with lots of pillows is good. I used 4 pillow behind me and one under my knees and I was fine. I was living on Naproxen due to my chronic back issues and since my surgery in 2009, I haven't taken even ONE! It's really worth it!

12/09 and 6/11, 9 skin removal procedures with Dr. Sauceda in Monterrey Mexico
Revised to the Sleeve after losing 271 lbs with the LapBand.
My Apronectomy was 8/08 and as I was in a public hospital and had old scars (open RnY+ cesaerean) I asked to not have a bellybutton I was in hospital until 24.08..
Instead my body developed a slough at the reverse T. I am still very happy with my flatter lower belly (3 kilo removed).
My open incision did not heal and I developed wound dehiscince and have been back in hospital since 12/09. After debridement surgery, packing and not much progress, I am now on a Wound VAC.
When I did gt home I managed fine in bed and in my recliner.
all of my surgery was paid for by my HMO but I did se a medical review committee and my "blubber-rash" under the belly was so severe even after showering and dermacombin creams that there was a major concern during the op if the fungus would enter my body.
I had to buy my binder and bring it to hospital when I was admitted for it to be taken into surgery.
I hopeyou get the best procedure you desrve for your phenominal weight loss. You go girl!
