Don't do what I did....

So today I had my pre-op visit at the hospial and the doctor's office. This morning a friend gave me a water pill...Litle did I know that would cause my potassium levels to drop.  My potassium level is so low, I have to take medication for it now.

My blood pressure was also really high, so now I'm on blood pressure meds....At least I asked for anxiety meds and he prescribed some.

Please note - I normally do not take other people's medications....Just had a stupid moment today....Definitely learned a lesson!

Never a good idea to take someone else's meds.
Never never a good idea to take Lasix (if that's what you took) that is not prescribed for you.
It will mess up your electrolyte balance...as you found out.

If you feel you need a diuretic, ask your doc and get a script!

Thanks for posting your cautionary tale.

As a nurse, it just blows me away that people will do this.

I have seen some dire consequences from this.
