Pre-Op Problems?

I'm scheduled for a LBL next Friday, 9/23.  I feel like I've been jumping through hoops for months to get eveything approved through the insurance company and work, and finally thought the coast was clear after my pre-op testing last Thursday.  Apparently I was wrong, as the PS office called yesterday to say there was an "abnormaility" on my EKG, and I need to see a cardiologist to be cleared for surgery.  Nothing like throwing up a road block 10 days before surgery, but that's pretty typical of how things have gone for me in the past.  She wouldn't elaborate on the "abnomailty" either, so I don't have any idea what it could be :(

I'm 29 years old and don't have a cardiologist, so I had to beg the nurse to help me figure out who I could get an appointment with.  She was so sweet and even made the appointment for me on my first available day off (this Friday.)  I guess that's one of the perks of going through one of the biggest hospitals in the area, they've got plenty of connections!

Needless to say, I'm freaking out.  I've been working so hard and looking forward to this next big step for so long, and I'm afraid it's all going to fall apart so close to the finish line.

Have any of you had similar experiences?  Did your surgery get cancelled or postponed?  I just have no idea what to expect from here, and need a little bit of perspective to get me through until Friday when I can get more answers.  My family is telling me not to worry, that it's probably just a precaution or liability thing, but I don't think the realize how much this means to me.  I know you guys understand better than anyone else how excited I am to get rid of all of this extra skin!

I had to do the same thing prior to my Sleve. Don't be alarmed. The Cardiologist will do a EKG and possibly a cardio perfusion stress test. My Bariatric Dr. requested it because of a strange looking rhythym they weren't use to seeing. I got a great diagnostic test on the insurance's money. I think this is real common.

Thank you for the response!  I am glad to hear that someone else went through this and was able to move on to surgery as planned.  This was just completely unexpected, and is happening right when I thought I was good to go!!

I was told I had an abnormal Ekg, and I never had 1 before to compare it to so the Dr. said the abnormality was probably normal for me and that was *****  since then i had a heart attack in 2002 and my EKG's are always abnormal andI have had a lot of surgery it is better to check it out and be safe
GOOD LUCK

Everything is fine!!  My heart rate was too low, but they just took me off one of the medications I had been taking for blood pressure, so I should be good to go on surgery day :)  Thanks for helping to calm me down while I waited it out.
