LBL--how soon can I reasonably expect to go out--drains, etc.

I'm getting a bit depressed reading posts about being bigger after surgery, etc. Making me worried I'm not ready clothes wise for postop. Most of my comfy, cotton capris/pants fit me well--none very loose. And I don't own a skirt. Have a comfy summer dress or two, but now cool weather will soon be upon us. How soon were you able to get yourself dressed and out of the house with the drains and swelling, etc. and when could you wear underwear!!

Thanks as usual for any and all feedback!

Get a pair of yoga pants with the drawstring. I lived in those post-op. I had my drains until day 10, but some people have them much longer.

if I went out I would wear granny panties. i had my last drain in till 4 weeks. It all depends on the drainage. I had 4 drains altogether.  I have to say for me the drains were the worse part.  but like everything else this too shall pass. I am 7 weeks out tommorrow and most of the swelling is gone. I do swell a little after a days work but not bad at all.  It is worth it.

I didn't go anywhere while drains were in - except for surgeon follow up appointments.  I also had brachioplasty with TT and it was HOT and I didn't leave the house.

I wore cotton knit pants with elastic waist.  PJ cotton top with buttons in front and a sweater over shoulders for ride in car.  I didn't look great but no one saw me except for bathroom stops and surgeons office.

I had mine in for a couple of weeks and then when they came out, ended up developing a seroma, getting aspirated, getting the drain re-inserted (that was a *****!), aspirated again once or twice.......

My advice is NOT to ru****  As much as we hate them and want them out, leaving it in if there is any doubt is better than having to get it re-inserted later.  Trust me!

You had to have a drain re-inserted?!?!?! Holy CRAP!! I can't even imagine! I just said today that I'd rather tote these drains around for an extra week than even begin to pu****  Granted, now that the drain sites are looking like they might be trying to get infected I may be singing a different tune here soon.

Hope this is all soon a distant memory!

I flew home at 2 weeks out with one drain, that I hid in a small fanny pack.  I went to a party on Sat, less than 2.5 weeks out from surgery.  I tucked the drain into the waistband of my terrycloth pants.  I clipped it on, so that it wouldn't go dangling...

I think I was 16+ days out when I finally was able to get my garments on by myself.
Quite a feat as I was still pretty swollen.  I was in my bra/arm garment under my abdominal garment for 2+ mo, then went into a sports bra.

well, I left the house to go out to breakfast, dinners, grocery store, etc in the first week or two...lol

I'll admit, for the last 2 months I've lived in my skirts (did pre-op too, though)

I had 2 of drains for a month, so I wasn't just going to hide like a recluse that whole time.  I put them in the bag I got with my On-Q pain pump.

I got tired of not wearing undies after about a week, so I just wore them over my garment.  I don't much like being breezy in that area.

I don't love the breeze either! LOL! I have ventured out in a dress I have, but felt naked the whole time. I haven't tried to put on any of my cotton stretchy pants yet. Have an appt tomorrow and am hopeful I'll lose at least a couple of my 4 drains then maybe I'll brave some pants. I'm using the On-Q bag for the drains too. I'm mostly looking forward to getting the drains out so I can get a support garmet that goes over my thighs. The swelling and tightness from my lipo is bugging the heck out of me and I think a garmet that goes to at least mid thigh will help.

Thankfully cool weather is approaching so I'll be able hide under a sweater!

Thanks!
