If your overall Iron is low. The Poly0Iron 150 sold by Vitalady will help. http://www.vitalady.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&k ey=1340X100 , For a real boost to your iron stores use the HEME Iron on vitalady's site. http://www.vitalady.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&k ey=1320X090 Take one at bedtime away from everything else with vitamin C and a copper pill for maxuimum absorption.
The tender Iron as mentioned above will also boost your Ferratin but not as quickly as the HEME.

My iron and related labs were a smidge low before plastics. Then during plastics I ended up needing to units of blood and another unit a day later. After surgery my iron continued to go down hill and I felt like crap. I ended up with an iron infusion and felt much better. I go in a week or so for more labs to see if I need another infusion.
My advice (having been there, done that) would be to look into an infusion now, before surgery. If you can't get that done, I'd work HARD to get your levels up before surgery and I'd get them checked a few weeks before. If they're not well within normal (not the low end of normal), then I'd postpone surgery until they are. You want to avoid blood transfusions if possible and not need 3 of them like I did.
Good luck!
