What do I need to remember--surgery a week out
Looking for advice about what you needed or found helpful for the hospital and early out days. I'm planning on pre-making some meals for the family, but assume I won't have much of an appetite, so plan ready-to-drink shakes and light protein snacks. Speaking of RTD shakes--any favorites? I never used them.
Okay, help me get organized! I feel like I'm in nesting mode. My poor kids won't have any toys left by the time I'm done!!!
Thanks,
Denise

As far as things you might use post-op. I had flushable wipes, stool softeners, laxatives and benedryl on hand. I had a lot of gauze bandages and paper tape. I even used maxi pads as bandages. They felt good and really protected my incisions....also neosporin. I had a shower stool so I didn't have to stand for those first few showers. I didn't have much of an appetite either right at first. You can also try egg drop soup, cottage cheese, or ricotta chesse fulff. It's ricotta cheese mixed with SF pudding and some milk. All of those have good protein. Just something soft and easy to eat without making a meal.
Good luck to you!
Renee

I brought (and wore) a few long flowy skirts - it was easier to hide the drain. Just strapped it to my leg with a bra strap.
I dislike all protein with the exception of unflavored Syntrac Nectar powder so a brought some and mix in into my drinks. I also supplemented with vitamin c and bromelain.
Good luck!!!
Katie
Thanks so much!

I like Atkins RTD shakes or Slim Fast low carb shakes. I drank a lot of them post-op. I did not feel like chewing and my muscles were pulled so tight eating food hurt for a while.
