11 days out from TT... incision has opened, should I panic
hi all,
I am 11 days out from TT and felt a sharp pain in my lower abdomen earlier. Paid no mind as I am trying to ween off the last of the pain meds and thought I was just feeling "the pain". I just took off my binder and gauze to do my nightly gauze change and there is about a one inch area along my incision that has pulled apart. It bled earlier as evidenced on the gauze but now it its not bleeding just open and a little wet looking. Should I be concerned tonight? I plan on calling the doc tomorrow, but I am a little worried tonight.
Any thing like this happen to anyone else?
Thanks,
Jane

Jane,
Sorry to hear that your wound opened up. I had a LBL last December, and the day after my sutures were removed my right hip opened up. I freaked out, called my surgeon (hes in Mexico) and I ended up going to the ER.
I would NOT panic. Simply cover up the area with a sterile gauze and rest tonight. Im sure when you contact your surgeon in the morning he will see you and give you further instruction. In my perticular case, I followed up with my PCP on a weekly basis and I applied Silvadene Cream daily. It took a few weeks to fill back in and heal completely, but all went very well.
Best of luck to you. Rest up !

Thanks Marianne! I did put some bacitracin and a clean gauze on it. I had disolvable stitches underneath the first layer! Never saw a suture (except by the drains and bellybutton). I will call him first thing tomorrow morning. Thank you again...I am definitely calmer now!

I split my incision at the 4 week mark. They can't do anything about it, it just has to heal itself. My doctor told me if it split further, he could put staples on either side so it didn't get any wider. Mine did not, so I did not get the staples. It took 2 weeks for mine to heal, just like my doctor told me. Call your doctor, but I believe it is common and he will tell you something similar to what mine told me.

Thanks Laura!! I checked it this morning and it looks dry and a bit red...but so does half of the incision (look a bit red). YThat makes a lot of sense!! Thanks, I am begining not to worry! :) Gonna call the doc in a lil bit!

My thigh opened a little, same thing tho.....keep dry & use gauze as needed. It just healed itself but was slow to heal I think because of the area it was in! When it did kind of begin to look "dried up", he had me use betadyne on it.
