allergic to pain medication

I had a Fleur de lis tummy tuck last wednesday and am doing well.
The problem i'm having is i can't take any of the pain meds they gave me because i'm allergic.
When i came out of surgery the morphine made me so sick they had to give me anti nausea meds and switch me to Dilaudid which wasn't much better.  They sent me home with Percocet and Tylenol 3's with codeine and can't take those because i can't massive headache nausea and weird nightmares and weird feelingts in my head.  I've alway know i've had a sensitivity to  codeine but this really sucks I've been taking extra strength tylenol but seems to do nothing for pain.  I do know when I had my gastric bypass in the states they gave me liquid vicodin in the States and that didn't affect me. I was wondering if anyone on here has had experience with this and what they use.  Another thing I can't stand is this stupid swelling.  Wow

What did they give you for the nausea? You should ask for zofran (ondansetron), which is the absolute best anti-nausea drug available. They give it to cancer patients, and I asked for it for my plastic surgery next week. It just went generic so you should ask to get the generic version (the brand name is stupidly expensive, like $27 per pill. But should be much cheaper if you get it generic).

The active ingredient in percocet is oxycodone, which has given me weird headaches and nausea too.

The active ingredient in both Tylenol 3 and vicodin is hydrocodone, which is related to oxycodone but a little different and not quite as strong. I find that hydrocodone makes me extremely depressed and even more nauseous. So when I have to pick between the two, I usually go for percocet and just make sure I take a good anti-nausea drug.

Different preparations of the same drug can affect people in various ways. I never had nausea with the liquid oxycodone they gave me after my surgery, but when I take it in pill form it tends to upset my stomach. Unfortunately my plastic surgeon does not want to give me the liquid for some reason. But definitely let your doctor know, maybe they'll be more sympathetic than mine and will cut you a break.

You can try a few other methods to deal with the pain. Things like laying quietly while listening to soothing music, aromatherapy, sitting with your face to the sun. This link has some relaxation exercises you can try: http://www.hospicenet.org/html/without_meds.html

Sorry about the swelling, you're just going to have to get enough rest, try not to move around too much, and wait for it to resolve. It will get better!

You poor thing....  One thing that really helps me with the swelling is ice - one on the front and one on the back.  It seems to selp the swelling and numb the pain. (I had TT/LBL on 8/16)  Hope you feel better soon.

They did give me Zofran in the hospital and it worked.  I really only need the pain meds at night it's hard to go to sleep when you are hurting.  Thanks for the advice guys.
I said to my daughter that i can't believe people actually buy oxycodone on the street to get high.  Who would want this nasty feeling.  LOL
