post op day four
wow I just can't believe how different my abdomen looks, so flat.
I'm still very tired but feeling better each day. Starting to swell more. Having some problems with drains too sometimes the bleeding comes out through the hole where the tubing is instead of going into the tubing and coming out into the jp drain. Has anyone else ever had that problem? I still can't believe after losing three hundred plus pounds they only had about seven pounds of skin to remove. But now what sucks is my thighs look worse and my arms and everything else. LOL are we ever satisfied. I am considering a breast lift and implants but then again don't want to become obessed with plastics. My family wants me to just leave things as they are but after losing twenty five years of your life to being super morbidly obese you want to just look normal for once in your life. How do i make them understand how i feel. Some of them have said i am just vain now. I don't agree when you lose that much weight i don't think it's purely cosmetic.

I agree that when you are first post op, the other areas are highlighted. I'm going back and forth between wanting a tummy tuck or BA. I never wanted this stuff before seeing so many before and afters and having my arms done. Now, I'm disgusted by the jiggles! Lol

It is normal for the drain sites to leak. The drain itself is longer than you think and is not draining the area where it is inserted. Are you stripping the drains so there aren't any clogs in the tubing?
The leaking fluid has to go somewhere- you are lucky it's going out :-)
My drasins tunnelled about 8-10 inches under the skin.
It didn't hurt at all when they were pulled, I promise. My abdomen is still numb from ribs to pubis- 5 years later.

RNY 10/28/03 305# 8/11/04 147# 9 years out and >75% EWL!
I don't know. I think it is kinda normal, it's the whole area where the tummy skin would have been lifted from the muscle. about 12" X 7". Numb to touch , I can feel deep pressure (if I become diabetic I'm good- I'd never feel a shot)
If you look at the surg on You Tube they lift up the skin, pull down, tighten the muscles and then sew it shut. That's why it drains and swells so much.
I never asked the doc... I did have to have a 2nd surgery after the TT to evacuate a bleed a week later, but I don't think it went clear across the abdomen where i am numb.
The avitar was before plastics :-) They took off 3# skin, I had no fat left!.
I've also had a c-section (horizontal incision), open RNY (vertical) Bowel resection (vertical) then the TT & hernia repair. Perhaps those all nailed the nerves :-)

Pup, nay, I don't think it would be a cummulative effect. Probably just from the last surgery which I'm guessing was the TT and hernia repair. I'm not numb - haven't had my TT yet. I have had C-section (vertical incision), lap gallbladder, lap umbical hernia, lap DS, and lap ventral hernia repair. I did have pain for a long time after my lap ventral hernia repair. In fact, now, 2 years and nine months latter I still sometimes notice it.

You're not vain at all. I believe most of it should fall under "reconstructive" rather than cosmetic. My WLS surgeon said it should be no different than an insurance company paying for reconstructive surgery after a mastectomy (which they do), but of course insurance companies are going to fight everything, and the stigma against obese people just gives them more ammunition to do so.
I hear ya on wanting more done. My thighs, which I used to think were "OK" now look pretty bad compared to my tummy. I told my husband it's just like when we painted our living room, I didnt realize how bad the trim and ceiling were until we had new walls :)

Wow feeling so crappy tonight!
it feels like everything is burning and irritated especially the stupid drain on the right it it kinda red and swollen where it enters the skin. I finally took two percocet but hate taking them cause I feel too stoned and if i take one doesn't seem to really work for too long on the pain. I have been trying to wean off to extra strength tylenol but it doesn't do a thing for the pain. I've never had such irritation with the drains I had last time but those ones came out of my hips and these ones are in the mons area. NOT FUN!

I am 10 days post op from my tummy tuck no muscle work done... I had my drains removed at day 7 and they were a little leaky, its kinda gross but I will tell you I felt sooooo much better once they came out and like someone said earlier no pain when they were removed at all.
I have to add my 2 cents in about how we feel about ourselves after weight loss because I am the same way. My husband had a had time with me getting my tummy done he told me I should just be happy that I have come so far in my weight loss he said I was acting like I won the lottery and complaining about having to pay taxes. He does not understand... or anyone that is not living what we are... I know what the scale says, my size on my jeans, my doctors are happy, but when I look in the mirror and see all the extra rolls and hanging skin I still am not happy with what I see. I tell him he does not know what is like to do jumpping jacks and have your skin on your tummy hitting your privates. So I say you do what makes you happy. I already started talking to my doc today about my arms... so there! Good luck!
