New to this forum....getting bat wings clipped next month

My surgery is scheduled for 9/12.  I'm both excited and nervous.

Would appreciate any insight from those of you who have had this done.  I do work with someone who had it done, so I have used her experience as my go-to research.

How long did all of you have to be off work?  My surgeon told me a couple of weeks (desk job), but my co-worker was off 4 weeks.

Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

I had my surgery last month. I took two weeks off and that was plenty. So far, I've had a very easy recovery...nothing major. Some aches and pains, but I stopped all narcotics pain meds about 3 days out. I also started back exercising (just walking) 3-4 days post op. I started running again 3 weeks post op. It's been very easy and I looooooove my results!

Oh thanks for your reply!  That gives me a 2nd person who has just done great with it.   I have my pre-op appt. on Tuesday and one of my questions has to do when I can start upper body strength training again.  I'm sure I won't be able to do that for quite some time.  I'll start walking just as soon as I'm on my feet.

I'm still not lifting weights...I decided to wait until 6-8 weeks out, because I want the scars to heal as much as possible. I am back to my cardio routine-run 3x a week, spin twice, and stepper machine. I am training for a 10 mile race, and I feel fine with that. I hope to start adding some strength training in next week or the week after.

I did do as much as possible before going in for the surgery.

Hi Wanda, welcome to the PS side!  Please be sure to post and let us know how you're doing after your surgery.  This is also a great place to get your questions answered.  There's a lot of experience in this forum.

My surgeries are scheduled for December so I've been doing a lot of research and asking a million questions.

Well Hi Lee!  Fancy meeting you here!

I hate to admit it, but I haven't done a lot of research about PS.  VSG I researched a LOT before making a decision.  More than anything I think it's because I know someone who had it done.  She had complete success so I'm just going with that.  Not sure I want to hear any horror stories.  If something happens with me, I'll just deal with it.   I don't want to make myself more nervous than I already am.

Kind of going through the "Should I do this or just live with the sagging arms" conversation with myself......kind of like how we all try to talk outselves out of WLS in that "Maybe I can try just dieting one more time."

But then I look in the mirror.  YIKES!

I hear ya about getting nervous Wanda.  I'm the same way but I seem to be researching PS even more than the VSG.  Funny how we're all so different.

I took a Pilates class at a new studio last week.  There were mirrors on the wall.  I was wearing a short sleeved T because it was pretty warm.  When we raised our arms up over our head, then back down, I was so horrified.  Next class last week I was back in a long sleeve T.

So yup, I'm going to do it because I really don't want my arms to keep me feeling bad about myself.

Who's doing your surgery?

I'm having it done in Omaha.  Surgical Images.  If I could keep my arms at my side for the rest of my life, I wouldn't get it done.  Even raising my arms to do my hair and seeing them in the mirror is horrifying!

Yup, I get it.  I was in Spain this summer for two weeks.  We walked 10-15 miles a day and it was over 100.  One day it was 105.6 and we walked 15.5 miles between noon and midnight.  I so wished I could have been wearing a tank top.  That's reason enough for me to get this done. I've been hiding my body since I was barely a teen.  At 60 I'm ready to be done with covering up every inch.  That said, I've always worn a swimsuit and just forced myself to do.
