Prophylactic mastectomy?
Even though I haven't had my wls yet, I am researching ps. I know that in addition to a tt, I will want a breast lift, and depending on how much is lost in the breasts- implants. My question is has anyone had a prophylactic mastectomy, then had implants? I have been considering it because when I last went for my mammogram I mentioned implants to the tech to see if there were any difficulties with implants and mammo's. She told me it is more difficult with implants. I have fibrous breasts and it is difficult with just my normal breasts and mammo's.
My breasts have done what they were designed for, breastfeeding days are long over and I have no special attachments to them (no pun intended). As far as I know I am at no increased risk for breast cancer, but cancer (in other areas) has struck 3 immediate family members.
So what do ya'll think. of course, once I am ready for PS and have chosen a surgeon I will ask that surgeon, but I wanted to bounce it off of ya'll first.
Thanks for any input!

Beth,
I am a BRAC 1 carrier (breast cancer gene). I had genetic testing back in Jan. and found out I carry the breast cancer gene. No surprise almost every women on my mothers side had breast cancer at a very early age. With my results I opted for a prophylactic mastectomy and had it done April 1st with a breast lift. After three months of expander's (balloon type implants that I went in each week and had filled, they were place under my chest muscle...so I had to be stretched to make room for my implants) I had my TT with lipo, panni, lipo of side boobs, expander's removed and implants placed and let me tell you they are BEAUTIFUL. I couldn't be happier. The mastectomy was a bit grueling and not such a pretty sight, but the implants are amazing. And because I carried the gene any surgery related to my breast was covered by my insurance at 100%!!! My my plastic surgeon told me he was giving me the "Cadillac" of implants...and they cost over $20,000.
I'll be posting pics soon, you'll have to check them out. Like I said I couldn't be happier. My surgeon was AMAZING and my TT is perfect.
I'd be happy to answer any other question you might have! Hope this post helps. Best of luck to you and let me know how it goes at your appointment.
