Carolyn - congratulations on your surgery tomorrow!  I'm about 55 days out of a tt and Lbl and it definitely is worth it.

My words of wisdom are - be sure and eat to keep your healing/energy up.  I didn't have an appetite afterwards and my ps had instructed me in advance to make sure I got enough protein in, etc. for healing.  He was right.  You will have days where you feel more energetic and then days when you don't.  Listen to your body - don't rush getting back to your normal routine.

I went in the morning of surgery with a very calm attitude.  I worked darn hard to get where I am and knew that this was the next step in completing that journey.

Good Luck!

I'm also right there with you guys I'm having the Fleur De Lis next week Aug. 24 and some days I am almost sick with fear and not even sure why as I have had other surgeries.  But I guess the last one scared me too much with the complications from incompetent ps. I too like coming here to know I'm not the only one freaking out.  You will do fine as we all will I think we wouldn't be human if we didn't freak out somewhat.  Seems wrong to have to pay for someone to cut you up and cause you pain for a few weeks.  LOL

It goes by sooo quickly!

I remember being so nervous, the day came and went so fast.

I looooove my results (just got an arm lift).

You will do great! I suggest doing anything you can today--cleaning, cooking, errands, etc. You will want to be resting for the next few weeks!

The monday before surgery went by so fast!

I would drink as much water as you can right up until midnight - it will make it so much easier to start your IV tomorrow.

Also eat protein tonight - it will keep you satisfied and help with healing.  I would also be on probiotics, if you arent already.  You will get antibiotics in IV and then orally for a few weeks.  Antibiotics really kill the normal bacteria in your colon and "mess up" your current bowel habits.  Make sure to use "live" bacteria - I find the best ones in the refrigerator section of Vitamin Shoppe or smiliar type store.

Rest.  The only things I used in hospital was cell phone, iPod (listened all night to music or podcasts to relax me).  Also a small pillow to fit between you & seatbelt for the way home.  I also had a quart size Ziploc with a folded paper towel - just in case of bad nausea or vomiting.

Wear slip on shoes because you won't be bending over!!

After surgery, I felt "traumatized" and wanted to soothe my emotions with "comfort foods" that got me morbidly obese in the first place.  I wanted a "pity party" in a big way!  Fight that - eat for nutrition and for healing & strength.  It is so easy to give in to white sugar and white flour - DON'T go down that road!!

Best wishes & prayers for you.

I've been drinking water and isopure (my favorite protein drink) and now I'm getting nervous eating sugar free popsicles - ok I ate 2...  Using food for comfort is a hard habit to break. I wish the anesthesia could start tonight!  Thank you for the kind words. --Carolyn

Carolyn,
I hope that as I write this you are resting peacefully and will be well rested!  Tomorrow will come and go and will be a faint memory soon enough.  Take baby steps!  Let the nurses help you (I am one to think I can do it on my own, but if I let them help me move it was a lot easier.)  Don't pu**** and take it easy.  I don't know what kind of car you have access to, but I still struggle to get in an SUV so a car would be better to pick you up from the hospital!

Sleep while you are in the hospital.  Don't panic when you can't go to the bathroom after the catheter is removed, realx and it will happen.

Breathe!  Pray!  Breathe! Pray! Repeat!  You will be great!  Look forward to talking after your surgery. (Again, another sleeples night for me creates long posts on my part.)
