Update about my confusion on LBL and tummy tuck.

I called the doctor and asked him if he is just cutting hip to hip that would only be a tummy tuck.  He said he is doing an extended tummy tuck.  I said I want the lower body lift, was that the same?  He wants me to go back in and sit down with me and explain it all in person so I am comfortable and understand what will be done and what will be corrected.  So now can you guys please tell me if the extended tummy tuck is the same as a LBL before I go there?

Also, I want to get some binders to wear, I will find out what kind he uses but I do want extra ones.  Suggestions on them and where did you get them?  How did you know what size to get?

Thanks for answering all my questions, I am so lucky to be able to come here and have so much support.

Have a GREAT weekend!

An extended tummy tuck is absolutely NOT the same as a lower body lift. It was explained to me that in an extended tummy tuck the incision is taken around the body only 300 degrees whereas the lower body lift is an incision 360 degrees around the body. The extended tummy tuck incision stops about a 1/4 of the way to the butt crack on either side if you can visualize that. You can look up belt lipectomy or circumferential body lift also. It was explained to me that both those terms are thrown around interchangably with Lower body lift, but that there is some variance in how the procedures are done to produce the wanted outcome so they are not identical.

Hope this helps.

His idea of an extended tummy tuck will vary from another surgeon's idea. I have an extended tummy tuck along with the vertical incision. Mine is technically called a fleur-de-lis. The extended part of my tummy tuck is with my horizontal scar and it only goes to my outer hip. I was cut as far down to the table as possible without being turned over. Having him explain what his version of an extended one is a good idea, that way you will be clear and have no doubts of what he's planning to do.

I have so much loose hanging skin in the tummy area below and above the belly button.  The fat and loose skin continues the whole way around the hip area and my butt is so saggy.  He did say I didnt have much fat above my butt crack that he would only have to cut right pass the hip area and that everything else would be lifted up.  He said he will show me what he will do and that is why he wants to have another face to face meeting so I can tell him again what I want accomplished and make sure I am comfortable with what all will be done.  I go Wednesday for the blood work and ekg test and then I'll see him after that.

HERE is a good picture of the markings used in a lower body lift (scroll down to see the pics). I just don't see how your surgeon can really lift up your butt if he does not go all the way around.

Check out my plastics pics and you can see my sagginess before (tummy and butt) and then where my incisions were in my afters....I had the full LBL and a butt augmentation, but the incisions would have been the same even without the augmentation.  (My pics aren't password protected, so anyone can see them.)

You need to make sure that you are both understanding eachother and that you are fully comfortable with what he is doing.  If not, then I'd recommend getting consults with other surgeons until you find one that you do feel understands your needs and that you feel comfortable with.

Good luck!
