pain meds
Hi - I take lortab 10/500 (3 a day) for low back pain - not regularly but when I get it and I've had it the past 7 days. TT and LBL are Tuesday - 3 days from today and I'm wondering if these meds will still be effective after surgery. Does anyone have experience with this? My back problems have improved but not gone away since WLS, even though everything else has. Thanks!
So I have taken Lortabl regularly for almost 2 years (left side pain post RNY). Anyway, post brachioplasty I continued to take Lortab, but after my TT, etc. Lortabl was not nearly enough. While in the hospital I had morphine through the IV and something liquid by mouth (don't remember much of this time!). I came home on Roxicet and have worked back down to Lortab during the day and Roxicet at night. Talk openly to your PS about your pain med concerns. My RNY Surgeon told me to make sure my PS knew I have taken Lortabl for a while so she would know. He even offered to talk to her if she had any questions.
I don't know about the LBL, but with the abdominoplasty I have to say I have never had such bad low back pain. I am 3 weeks out on Wednesday this week and I still am walking bent forward so although my back is better it is still not good. I am actually going to see a PT to try to help it out! (I had low back pain when I was losing b/c the change in my center of gravity.)

Oh geez... Thats what I feared! After WLS I used to take lortab 7.5/100 and have moved up to 10/500 so I don't OD on acetaminaphin... I will have to reiterate this to my PS and I'm not re-filling the lortab rx so they doesn't think I'm a druggie. I'll be in the hospital overnight and will tell my doc about roxicet. Thanks for the suggestion! I actually borrowed a walker to prepare for bent-over-walking. Please keep me posted on your progress - it's great to know what to anticipate and so glad you're doing so well! -- Carolyn
