New here... question about surgery and surgeons

Hi everyone!  I am new here.  I have lost almost 170 lbs through calorie counting and exercise and am now in the process of getting everything in place for body contouring surgery.  I had my first appointment with a plastic surgeon this week.  It went well but I am not sure he is who I want to go with.  I was wondering if any of you could recommend a plastic surgeon in the Baton Rouge/ New Orleans Louisiana area?  I would greatly appreciate it!

The surgeries we decided that I will need are a brachioplasty, a circumfrential body lift, a mini inner thigh lift and a breast lift.

This particular surgeon wants to divide it into 2 surgeries.  I would prefer one surgery, but if I have to have 2 for safety reasons, thats fine.  I was wondering if anyone here has had all of that done at one time before.  If so, how did it go?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

I can't help you with a surgeon because I live in Indiana but there is no way that you want all of that done in one surgery. The Circumferential is major and most surgeons, (like mine) will not do the thighs at the same time. And that would be a tramendously difficullt recovery, and you want your arme done at the same time as well. YIKES!

I do believe I have heard of a full body lift but not sure what all is involved in that but I'm having the circumferential and brachioplasty and that alone is going to be a challenge. Please reconsider and I'm sure many will chime in with their suggestions.

Most surgeons are going to want to break that up into 2 (or more) procedures.  All the ones I consulted with did.

Dr. Sauceda in MX will do them a week apart, I believe.

That's a LOT of trauma to the body all at once.

Thanks so much for your responses!! I don't know anyone who has had plastic surgery so it is wonderful to have y'all to talk this all over with.

I agree that it probably is safer to do it all in at least 2 surgeries.  The thing I am kind of bummed about with the surgeon I met with is that he wants about 8-10 weeks between the surgeries.  I am really hoping I could have them done closer together because I don't want to take that much time off of work. I definitely would rather be safe than sorry (even if I have to pay the anesthesia and hospital fees twice), I am just worried about the logistics of 2 surgeries at this point.

I am definitely going to go with what the surgeons think is best :)  I am just hoping that possibly I can find a surgeon who would feel comfortable doing the surgeries closer together.

Hi I had a TT with muscle repair and breast lift - followed 7 weeks later with a thigh and arm lift.  I originally wanted my surgeries a bit closer together - was thinking 1 month - but I had a large blood loss in my first surgery so had to wait until my iron levels increased enough for the second.

Having said that 6-7 weeks gap was about as close as I would have wanted to have the surgeries - the second surgery was much tougher to recover from than the first - maybe because thighs are tough, or maybe because it was my second large surgery in a short period of time, or just maybe because the adrenaline isn't so high the second time around - not sure.

More info on surgeries etc on my blog.
Good Luck

Jujuvee, Are you having the brachioplasty and circumferential body lift done at the same time or in separate surgeries?

Same time for those 2 and I'm taking 7 weeks off work.

Phase 2 is thighs and implants but being that I am self pay that will be next year.

My friend had arms, breast lift, tummy tuck and inner thigh lift all on the same day. Simply put: DO NOT DO IT!  She is soooo unhappy with her results. Bad scars, asymmetry, and a terribly long and painful recovery. I feel for her because the chief of plastics at Hopkins said she could do it--you'd think that would have been a safe bet. Apparently not. I have gone to 4 consults. I respect the surgeons who don't try to cram it in one day because they risk you not coming back, but take that risk because they want you safe and showing favorable results.

Good Luck!

Thanks again for the input.  I think splitting it up into 2 surgeries is definitely looking like the way to go.  The surgeon I saw the other day wants to to the arms and thighs together and the breasts and stomach (circumferential)together.  I, however, would prefer the body lift with the arms and the breasts with the thighs.  The arms and body lift are priority for me.  I would like to get them done first so they can start healing.  I am going to ask the next surgeon I see if this is a possibility.  :) I'm glad to know that you are having thse done together.  It makes me more hopeful that I could find a surgeon who would feel comfortable doing it that way as well. :)

I don't have my next consult until October.  I am on a cancellation list and am hoping something opens up before then.  Its not a big deal though because I will not be able to do the surgeries until January or February anyway.  I am just anxious to see what that surgeon says. :)

My surgeon wanted to know what I wanted quotes for, than asked me to pick 2 parts that are priority and I said stomach and thighs he said can't do those together, He also mentioned that that would be too long under anestesia but since I mentioned stomach as being top priority he said he could combine the arms in that surgery.

So what he says goes. I hate my thighs (or hot dog buns as I call them ) but I have to remove the beast ( my stomach) it sits on my legs.
