Having them on the inside of the arm doesn't necessarily mean you are going to see them more. Mine are pretty well stragetically placed that I have to really twist my arm out and back to see them or raise my arms over my head. When my arms are by my side you can't see the scars from the front or the back. I had no issues with healing. I have a little bit of numbness in certain areas of my incisions but I have that with my incisions from my other procedures as well. It's not uncommon to have numbness after plastics. It's also not bothersome to me at all.

I would also take into consideration how you scar (which you won't know until after surgery). I have the arm lift and I wanted my scar on the inside of my arm. The ONLY time I really SEE the scar is when I look at it. Or when I hold my arms up in the mirror. Other then that I don't do alot of inside my arm looking. At first my scar fascinated me but now at 1 year out it's just there so like I said I have RARE occassion to see it.
I have had NO nerve damage on any of my surgeries including the arms.
With the arm scar down the back while I NEVER would see the scar EVERYONE will see the scar and I would be more self conscious because I like to wear sleeveless outfits. I'm already a little self conscious about my upper body lift scar when is slightly above my bra line and is visible when I wear certain summer dresses, but just certain dresses not all. Again I'm a go bare arm girl.
I did meet a girl once who had the scar down the back of her arm (she didn't think to ask about scar placement). She hated her scar for the reason above EVERYONE sees it even in short sleeves because the scar goes down to her elbow...so she's always getting questions from mainly coworkers and some friends. She also didn't scar very well so that's another added consideration.

Ugh - I'd hate people asking all the time!
I rarely had anyone ask. One time after a month long boot camp, one of the ladies asked me about my scar - I spent a lot of time with my arms raised over my head lifting weights - so she noticed. Another time at work, I was moving a bunch of things with a co-worker and had my arms outstretched a lot, so he noticed.
The worst part for me was that I couldn't just say "I had an arm lift" - because then they'd ask "why did you do that??" Which got into the whole weight loss thing...and I'm pretty much over talking about that now ;0) Lots of peope in my life don't even know I was ever big...
I would agree with the above posters - I don't count the numbness at the scar as "nerve damage" like they were talking about. I think that the incidence of real nerve damage (pain in the forearm, restricted movement etc.) is a bit greater with an inner incision - I think Dr. L posted that here - but certainly not common with either surgery. Just another reason to get an experienced dr. to do your surgery...

You know the only people that didn't know me big are men that I just meet and random folks but I was blessed with an abundance of friends and I've had my job over 5 years as well.
I've been asked on more occassion about my scars if I happen to stretch with a date and I see the quizical look on their face and then I get it for the back scar when I wear certain sundresses. My answer if officially the following "yeah I was much bigger and when I lost the weight I had the access skin removed"
So there you have it. But yeah our scars can be conversation pieces.
