Arm Lift Scar placement question

I am currrently shopping for surgeons to do my extended tummy tuck, boobies, arm and back.

One of the surgeons (Dr. Krieger) places the arm lift incision on the back of the arm.  The other surgeon prefers the inside of the arm (Dr. Michaels).

For thoes who have had arm lifts, which placement do you think best conceals the scars?

Any issues with healing due to the incision placement?

Any one with general thoughts about what location would be better please chime in as well.

One thing is with the scar on the back of the arm..I wont see it very often, but will others see it more.   With the scar on the inside of the arm ...I will see it more.  So will it bother me more, even though others might not see it as well.

I don't know

Any insight appreciated.
Thanks !

I'll be interested to see reponses.
I have not had mine done yet. Insurance has approved but I am doing lower body first.

Anyway, I have only seen one person with the scar down the back of the arm.
And I have to say, honestly, I would not want that for myself.

Just my humble opinion.

Thank you for your reply.  I have never seen anyone with the scar towards the back, so thanks for the insight.

I did a lot of research on this - both surgeons I consulted with did the inside the arm scar, but I figured I'd ask for the back scar if it was better.

The big benefit for the back scar is something to do with nerves.  Much less nerves back there and risk of nerve damage.  Or something like that.  ;0)  BUT the scar is much more visible.

If you're lucky and your scar heals thin and white, it wouldn't really matter.  But if you're someone like me with a dark, keloid scar, you'd be happy to have it inside.  It still showed sometimes, but I could pretty easily kept it hidden most times.

Personally, I went with the inside scar.  I hadn't heard of many people with significant nerve issues in all my reading, so I figured that must be a pretty small risk.

Interesting.  I will denfinately ask now about what all the reasons are for the scar placement.  Good to know you find it easy to hide on the inside.

Thanks for the response.  This all gets really confusing after a while, with trying to decide on a surgeon.

My scar is towards the back, but not all the way in the back. I'm glad you mentioned about the nerves, erica, because I have had feeling since the day of surgery...so that's good to know that my scar placement is the reason.

I'm black...so my scar will never be thin and white...but I'm hoping for a thin line. My surgeon has me taping for three months to flatten the scar.

Erica, do you have pics of you keloid? Also, I saw that you had a revision...did they do the surgery all over again? Was it the same cost?

I have pics of it on my profile if you want to see.

He didn't do the whole thing over - it was only a fix of the "surface" skin with the scar, and only in the places it went keloid.  It didn't go all over.

I also had one area in my vertical incision that he felt was too lax (he didn't tighten enough), and my bellybutton incision had "spread" so that it kind of looked like a bulls-eye.  Especially since it was keloid there.  So he fixed that too.

I could have applied to insurance and might have had it covered.  I decided to pay for the hospital fees/anesthesia and he didn't charge.  So it was minimal.  And I got it done this summer, when I didn't have to worry about work.

He thinks that, since it is just surface skin this time, that it won't have the tension on those areas and won't go keloid.  I'm also using compression sleeves (custom ones like a burn victim would wear) and silicone getl sheets.  And he used different suture material.  So hopefully that all works!

Thanx for the info!

I sent you a friend's request so I can see the scars.

My incision is on the inside.  I will say that my nerves are not all back yet (my surgery was 7/7).  I am posting a pic from like a week and a half post. I think the album is password protected (newme)

it took me about 3-4 months to get the feeling back in my upper arm.  And I did have some forearm pain i that time as the nerves healed.

My surgery was October - and as of my revision last week - the actual scar was still a bit numb.  But none of the rest of my arm.
