I have a hundred questions--LBL with fat graft-- where to start?!?

The surgeon I met with today said he uses an incision for his LBL that is smaller at the gluteal cleft (butt crack!) and goes wider out toward the outer thighs--like a butterfly sort of shape. He said that is necessary to prevent elongation of the butt crack. Have any of you heard of this?

Also, did any of you try to negotiate on the price of the procedures? I feel like pretty much everything in this life is negotiable, but don't want to offend anyone. However, with this economy, I'd think they'd be glad to get 20K instead of 23K vs. nothing!

So talk to me about this fat graft thing! He suggested it--said I already had nice volume back there and that he didn't want to flatten me out, so thought the fat graft was a good idea for me, especially since I have extra fat to graft. Is it extra painful? Did you get good results? I've read of assymetry due to the fat dying or something to that effect. Sounds a little worrisome.

Does anyone get through their recovery from the LBL without wound complications? Seems like most have at least some small issue.

I can't even believe I'm really talking about this!! So surreal. I'm excited! Can't wait to hear from you guys about your experiences. Good and bad--need all of it to make an informed decision.

Thanks so much!

Denise

I know nothing about everything but good luck whatever you decide.  I can't seem to work up the courage to go for it even where I'm covered by insurance.  Pain trumps payment for me.  Lol.

Yes, Dr. L did the same type of cutting on my backside. They also do not want to take much volume away from the tailbone to help prevent pain there.

I LOVE my buttock auto-augmentation!! My butt was going to be completely gone after pulling it up from the lbl without it. Now I have a nice little bulge back there. In clothes, it looks AWESOME!! So glad I did it.

Just take it easy post-op to try to avoid complications (and get in lots of protein). I'm still mad at myself for tearing a hole in my incision, but it is on the mend now, thank goodness.

I didn't negotiate my price but I thought just over 12k was good for an LBL & brachio. I personally didn't have any complications w/ my LBL incision (actually any of my PS incisions) Never had any openings or holes show up and my scars are very minimal and narrow. Not sure how my surgeon did my incision in the back. He just drew the guides and went ahead, I trusted him to do what was right and it turned out great.

Yes the incision is common I have it as well. As far as negotiationing I did- I was able to get 20% off my surgeon's fee.

20%--wow!! That is significant. I'll have to see about that. Like I said, I don't want to insult anyone, but I'm wondering if I tell them I have 20 to spend and they are pushing the 24, might they come down some. Every little bit helps toward the next procedure!! :)

Thanks!

I've heard some wishy-washy things about fat grafting.....expect to keep about 2/3 of it.......it won't take at all long term and you'll just end up with more sagginess.....yaddayaddayadda.

My surgeon did an auto-augmentation of the butt where he left some of my own tissue (that would have been removed in a normal LBL) attached and formed it into a "muffin" of sorts and attached it to the top of my butt muscle.  Since the tissue is still attached and living with a blood supply, it shouldn't ever "die off" or diminish.

There are so many conflicting opinions--hard to know what to believe!! I have heard of the fat not surviving and that's a bit worrisome! Interesting what he did to you.

Thanks!

When I was given the cost by the PS Office Manager I did ask if there was any discount for cash vs. credit card and the ps credit card they offer.  There wasn't any discount so I went ahead and put it on a card that I would get "rewards" from.  The only thing they did was guarantee to hold the estimate for six months.  Good Luck!
