Busted stitches after surgery?  They are on my hip, are leaking, and will not close for anything.  Been using antibotic ointment and gauze.  I have an appointment with doc but was wondering if anyone can give me some advice until then.  Thanks!

Once they open - they are open.  Be sure to not lift more than you are suppose to, wear compression if told to, etc.

Call surgeon for instruction regarding how to care for those healing areas - they all have their own "methods."

Get your fluids in, up your protein intake (I'm getting in 130 gm during plastics recovery) and eat healthy so you can heal.  Also make sure to take all vitamins & supplements.

I had openings under arms from brachioplasty, some opening around belly button from fleur de lis abdominoplasty and necrotic tissue on belly leaving an open wound for the last 7 weeks.  What my surgeon has me do may be different from yours.  Until you call them, I would use triple antibiotic ointment and have a sterile gauze over the area(s).

Stay off your feet, rest, ice packs will help swelling.  Sometimes the separation between stitches or "popping" stitches can't be avoided.

Best wishes.

Thanks for responding.  I've talked to them but I was wondering if anyone had a trick or two I could use.  Thanks again!

I had a small spot under my breast that came open. My surgeon has me putting xeroform on it and covering that with gauze. It closed within a week. Let us know what your doctor says. I would try to limit your activity until they stop leaking. Hang in there!!

Mine has been opened for over a week now.  Been putting the ointment and guaze on it.  I'm gonna look for the xeroform.  Thanks so much I really appreciate it.

Depending on how far open I had my back reopen quite a bit.  Been packing it with gauze soaked in Daykins solution twice daily for going on 4 months now.   For the leaking use sanitary pads they are better than any gauze for soaking up ooze.  At one time I even used adult diapers to contain the ooze.
