Curious question (money and plastics)

A little history about me...I am 29, lost 100 pds (no wls), have always wanted my arms done. I got those done last Tuesday.

A friend gave me these boards to read, and I've read them while researching, and going through the process of getting the brachio. And I see a lot of you guys have gotten a lot of procedures. Anyone care to share the ballpark prices of all the procedures. Does insurance cover anything? Self pay? Finance?

After reading these boards, I've convinced myself that I want a lbl next. I won't be able to get one until next summer(at the earliest)...I also need new breast, but implants scare me.

Congrats on getting your arms done.  I've also lost 100 lbs. (no wls) and had a LBL (lower body lift) 33 days ago.  I was self-pay and the total was almost $13,000.00 whi*****luded a two night stay in the hospital.  I saved up for 5 years but then decided to put the costs on a charge card in three equal charges to get a "reward".  The office manager at the ps office said a lot of people use cards with airline miles.  I paid off each statement and did not incur any finance charges.  Hope this info helps.

Wow! I didn't realize the lbl was so pricy! I may be saving up for five yrs, also lol.

I self paid the brachio and used my rewards card, so I got a lot of points for the surgery plus no finance.

I think the easiest and cheapest fix is to stop coming to these message boards and seeing all the hot bodies

Way to go on the weight loss.

I'm scheduled for November 8th and my LBL and Brachioplasty (arms) is just over 10.000 and surgery 2 thighs and breast implants is just over 12.000. This includes a one night hospital stay and any revisions within the first year.

You have a couple of other options that will be on the lower cost side.

The first, is to travel to Mexico.  There is a well respected plastic surgeon there, Dr Sauceda, who specializes in weight loss patients.  His patients have their own discussion group here:

www.obesityhelp.com/group/Dr_Sauceda_Patients/discussion/

Dr Sauceda lists his prices on his website, and if you spend over a certain amount he will include about $600 for airfare costs.  His prices also include clinic and hotel stay for recovery.  If you combine procedures the price is much less, and it's best to email him directly for information.

Another option is to go through a residency program at a teaching hospital.  For example, Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC (where I had my WLS) gave me a quote of $6500 all inclusive for a Lower Body Lift.  I went another route because they would only do one procedure at a time, and I wanted more done at once, but I was comfortable with them.

Thanks for everyone's comments. We have Baylor residency program here, and I checked through them, and the pricing didn't seem that much cheaper than other plastic surgeons. I'm going to ask my PS about it tomorrow at post op.

I still have about 20 more stubborn pds to get to goal...so I doubt I'd have anything done until I can get those off. I've been struggling with these for 5-6 yrs...so I think that gives me plenty of time to save

I have read alot about dr. Sauceda and if I went to mx, I'd go with him...but i have read/heard such bad things happening in monterrey. I wouldn't feel comfortable going over with all the drug cartel violence.

Thanks for everyone's comments

I was just in Monterrey in Jan.  The violence that you read about is generally outside the city.  The clinic and hotel are in the hospital area part of town and it wasn't a problem for me at all.  Dr S has a driver pick you up at the airport and take you back.  Dr S picks you up at the hotel and drives you to the clinic and then back to hotel.  I was in the clinic for 7 days and stayed at the hotel for 7.  But, I had the works done!

There were more killings and such in Sacramento than in Monterrey after I returned home.  Anything within 50-75 miles of Monterrey is reported as in Monterrey which is the 3rd largest city in Mexico.

My fleur de lis (anchor cut) tummy tuck with body sculpting and brachioplasty at acute care hospital with overnight stay was $14,000 (includes anesthesiologist) and all after care.  No pre-op consultation cost - that was included too.

I had an LBL with but augmentation 8 weeks ago and paid $12,700.  I got insurance approval for the panni portion after I paid, so I should be getting a refund for part of that once my insurance pays them.  I was told I'd get around $3000 back, so my out of pocket would be just under $9000.
