PS doesnt reccommend implants
Hi everyone!!
I talked to my PS about getting implants because I am having breast lift and reconstruction due to cancer. He wont do implants on Bariatric patients because of the "double bubble" it creates. He said with wsl patients the natural breast lays lower than the implant and creates an unnatural double hump look.
Has anyone heard of this??? I really eventually want implants! With WLS and cancer I wll be lucky to be a B cup when I have always been a DD or larger my whole life.
Thanks Sharon

I think you need to get another opinion. I'm not sure how the reconstruction would complicate things, but I assume it would. I know many WLS patients who have implants and have never noticed or heard anyone talk about a double hump look. I know some surgeons, like mine, do the breast lift first and then implants at a later time (for those of us with really droopy breasts). I am waiting at least 6 months between my lift and my augmentation. My surgeon said they have a better chance of staying higher if I wait.

Hey Sharon,
This year I underwent genetic testing for the BRAC1/ BRAC2 (breast cancer gene). I have a long line of breast cancer in my family, pretty much every women on my mothers side, had breast cancer. My testing game back that I did indeed carry the BRAC 1 gene which put me at a 97% risk of getting breast cancer around the age of the other women in my family (average age being 33). So with alot of talk with my husband, breast surgeon, and plastic surgeon on April 1st I underwent a prophylactic mastectomy. I had both breast removed and the plastic surgeon did my lift at the same time. At the time of the mastectomy I had expander's placed (balloon like pockets) that I went in each week to the PS office and had expander's stretched (filled with a silicon fluid) to prepare the muscle for the breast implants. It took about two months of expanding...but on July 9Th I had my tummy tuck/panniculetomy, muscle tightening/lipo...and expander's removed and implants placed. Let me tell you...THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL. After the mastectomy I had pretty much no breast, and a ton of loose skin left on the sides. That was all lipo-ed away. The end results are amazing. I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. I do have to have the implants MRI every three years and I now only carry a risk of 2% of ever getting breast cancer. I would get a second opinion. I've never heard of such a thing, and my surgeon had a ton of photos on other clients that did have cancer and the reconstruction of the breast that he had preformed, and those too look GREAT. Look into it...I wouldn't give up over one doctors opinion! Best of luck!

I think maybe your surgeon is not familiar enough with bariatric patients. I had a reduction and implants the same day. No issues. Good luck in finding the right surgeon, it was a year ago today I had mine done.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I think I will find another plastic surgeon that specializes in bariatric patients next year. My PS I currently have was referred to me by my cancer doctor. I have to be reconstructed on Friday because I need to go thru radiation within a few weeks. I am hoping between the WLS and the radiation my options wont be limited in the future. And I wanted to add....I am grateful that I have a future so.........don't forget to get your mammograms ladies!

Dr Sauceda will be in New York City in a few short weeks doing consults, and he's a great boob man. You could have him look and give you an opinion.

Prayers for a swift recovery from your reconstruction and radiation. Focus on your recovery for now. After you recover, you will find someone to give you new boobies.
