Am 27 days out from my LBL - last drain removed 6 days ago. Would love to hear others experience with swelling post-op. My next appt. is August 10. How much swelling is too much? Other than watching sodium intake - does anything help to relieve it? I am swollen all the way around right under my incision.
Thanks,

I'm almost 8 weeks out. I hear it's normal to swell for a looooonnnngggggg time.........
I'm still wearing my compression garment most of the time, but my stomach still swells by the end of the day. I tried on a cute summer dress the other day that was clingy and when I turned to the side I looked pregnant!
My worst area for swelling is my butt, but I had an autmentation done back there, too. I'm scheduled for a lymphatic massage to see if that will help. That's really the only area that is painful at all any longer and it's really more discomfort than pain.
Are you swelling where the drain was? If you push on your skin, do you get a waterbed type of effect? If so, you might have a seroma, which will need to be treated (most likely aspirated).

Did your doctor's office do an ultrasound to check the area? I have had 2. My swelling is in the tissue, so there are no pockets of fluid, which is good. I'm also getting a lymphatic massage on Friday to see if that helps. Did you take measurments? I am up 2 inches in my waist and hips, but I made my doctor promise me today that it will go down eventually!!
He told me to avoid sodium and try walking (but he told me walking makes some people swell).

I'm 4 weeks out from a LBL and between wekks 2 and 3 had the worst swelling ever. From groin to the tip of my toes was solid...so painful to walk. Had ultrasound to rule out bloodclots. Ended up wearing full compression stockings for 3 days and swelling went away. Hope it's as easy a fex for you as it was for me.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I e-mailed the ps office last night and got a response that they want to see me. So I called for an appt. and was told they might jus****ch it or they might have to aspirate it. So I'll go tomorrow morning and see what they say. Of course, today it is not quite as bad as yesterday - ugh.
