Anyone NOT at goal do a LBL or TT?

Hello! I'm new to the PS board, but the reality for me is getting closer, so figured I'd better introduce myself. I had RNY about 2-1/2 years ago and am down 140 pounds that I have maintained for about a year. I'm desperate to have this belly skin/fat gone--preferably a LBL, but anything is better than nothing. Problem is that I've been battling for many months now to get these last 30ish pounds off and no luck. I have been working out hard and have increased my muscle mass and lost a bit, but I'm stuck solidly at 195ish (depends on the day!) and was just wondering if anyone just accepted that their body was where is was going to be and went ahead with the surgery. Everyone says I look great the size I am, but I still don't see it and psychologically I'm having a bit of a block thinking about going ahead with plastics while still needing to lose. My biggest thing is that I'm so able to do so much since my weightloss and I want to keep on living without the restriction of this belly of mine (with running, etc.).

I have an appointment Monday with a PS and I'm terrified he's going to say he won't do the surgery until I lose more. I'm trying not to think about it and am hoping someone can give me some hopeful feedback that they got the surgery while still wanting to lose (but knowing it probably won't happen) and that things went great!

Thanks everyone and glad to be here!!!

Denise

Denise,

I'm also new to the Plastics forum and in the same situation as you are.  I have lost around 130 pounds and would love to lose about another 17.  My body on the other hand seems to be quite happy and comfortable where it is an NOTHING I do seems to a bit of difference.  I have met with my palstic surgeon already and plan to start my procedures (everything you can imagine) either in Nov or Jan.

I have wondered the same things you have wondered and will be watching for replys.  I know the surgeons don't want you to gain or lose weight after the surgery as it will effect the results of the plastics, but I was told by my PS that it is a matter of maintaining YOUR weight.

I'm with you on the excesses skin.  Bras for me are the worst. I have to go up 2 band sizes just to accomodate the extra skin.  Lets not even get into my bat wings!  Good luck at your appt.!

I am scheduled for Novenmer and I'm a lapbander with no saline (by choice). I'm self pay and I have a surgeon that is ok with me losing up until surgery. I am currently 220 and I just want to be under 200 when I go in.

I'm 5'10 and very realistic about my weight. heck I would stop losing now if I was under 200. I have always felt that if after all my cosmetic surgeries I was 175 that would be PERFECT. I think a thicker body is beautiful and I know that I can maintain that without plain o'l exercise and eating healthy.

I love my body and I'm ready to move on!

I did.  My surgeon gave me a goal of 135 and I had a personal goal of 199.  I  stoped loosing at 204-207 and maintained that for 8 months, I could get down to 200 and saw 189 once but that was by spending 4 hours 2 times a day 7 days a week at the gym.  I have arthritis and was simply not capable of maintaining that amount of exercise.  Also my Panni was starting to cause problems with the arthritis and my balance.  I finally admited to myself that I was at the point I was meant to be.

4 weeks ago I had my LBL.  The doc removed 15-16 pounds (I can never remember the exact number) of skin.  He was also conservative and only took 80% of my loose skin off because he did not want me to be TOO tight if the arthritis had a flair.  (I was not allowed to take my arthritis meds for 2 weeks before or 3-4 weeks after surgery, I just started taking them again.)  As soon as the swelling goes away, the doc thinks I will fluctuate between 189-191.   So it took plastics to get below my personal goal.  I am doing well other than having my belly button incision open up, but it is healing well.

Depending on how much you have lost, you may have more skin than you think, which will affect your final weight number.

He shouldn't say you need to lose more, but he will want to know if you have been stable for at least 6 months (at least my PS did.)  My PS also told me that if I did manage to loose more and got more loose skin, he would be willing to do a "revision" for a reduced price.

I too would love to lose about 20 more pounds . I've lost over 125lbs and have maintain for 2 yrs. I'm tired of my belly flap, flab and rolls and I have never worn a tank top with out a sweater even in 100+ weather (i swear i wore it on the beach last year..lol) the arms look that bad (too me) so I'm going forward with my TTand BP 7/26/2011 . I will continue with the battle to lose .  Go for it. Express this to your surgeon he or she will advise if you should go forward or not I'm sure. Good Luck

Welcome to the board. Super nice people here with a wealth of experience.

I am not at "goal". My bariatric surgeon had set a goal of 150. I just don't think it is in the cards for me.

I will be having plastics on Aug 8. Breasts, arms and belly have been approved by my insurance.

My plastic surgeon set a goal of 190 and stable. I am there. Have been since around Jan.

I have a large pannus and severe ptosis of what used to be very large breasts.
No diet or exercises is gonna get rid of it.

I am approaching 'bony' in other parts of my body.

I'm ready.

My pre-op appt is today and I am thrilled!!
