Doing well, except...

when I stand up, my tummy starts burning like crazy on the  left side and I get dizzy and then I feel like I might faint...The three drains are draining strawberry drink color, and the pain is not bad at all EXCEPT when I stand...

I have done a lot of peeing but no poop, as of yet...I've taken the stool softener four times now, but no go...the gas is awful, but at least now it's coming out..Yesterday, the gas was the most pain I had encountered...Under my shoulder and my breast bone is very sore from the gas pains, but it doesn't hurt any longer...

I Thank God for the lift chair...I really don't think I would be able to sit any where else..I Thank God for my hubby, he has been very helpful...

You that had LBL, did you have the intense burning sensation...?

Thank you ALL for your thoughts and prayers...You that have posted on my other post...know that I have read them and it feels wonderful to read your get well wishes...Forgive me, that I have not replied...The meds keep me whacked out...but I do thank you, soooo much...!!

Wow Cyndy
You are doing well, just remember its one day at a time.  Walking is the only thing that I know of to help with the gas problem and make sure you continue with the stool softner.

My day is coming.  I am having a huge ventral hernia repair with mesh and a full TT so I hope I can follow the one day at a time rule too.

((((Hugs)))) Keep you chin up.

So glad to hear from you, I've been thinking and praying for you.

Burning was something I had too - even at 6 weeks post op - after I've been sitting for a couple of hours I have to "slowly" stand up straight - still desire to stoop over.

Make sure to get plenty of fluid.  Eat solid food with fiber and some oil - to help move the bowels.  A hot protein latte (chocolate whey isolate powder with a scoop of Click & SF syrup) first thing in the morning usually gets me the desired results (that and all the softners/supplemts  I take).

Keep us posted on your progress.

Click is an espresso protein powder available in mocha or vanilla.  It is NOT the best source of protein, so I just add one scoop to my whey isolate protein to improve flavor and give an extra protein boost.  It does have caffeine.  Amazon is the best place to get it.  I have it autoshipped.  On the RNY board someone usually posts when Click is "on sale" at Amazon and with autoship you get another  15% off and the price is locked in.

Thannk you, Penny, for your thoughts and prayers..!

I have a question about the burning you experience...Is/was the burning very intense...As Long as I'm still, I'm just wonderful, but while trying to get up, the burning is almost unbareable...I will start moving and hold my hand very tight against the burning spot and that helps..then I go to sit down, and once again, the burning becomes intense again...As long as I'm still I don't have a problem...

Would you share your burning experiences with me...? I'm hoping I don't have any nerve damage.

Thank you...

Burning was bad.  Movement of drains was especially bad.  I got 2 removed (arms) at 2 weeks and 2 in belly at week 3.  I take warm shower am and pm (because of open wound - to irrigate it) but it also relaxes muscles.

I had bad burning for at least 3 weeks.  It was especially bad in incisions under my arms (arm lift) and my vertical incision from above pubic bone to above belly button.  The horizontal incision from mid-hip to mid-hip wasn't as bad.

I also have some essential oils (from Young Living- online) that I would diffuse by my chair to help with relaxation & pain.  I also listened to very relaxing music on iPod.  I used heating throw (electric) over my belly to relax muscles.  I keep my abdominal binder(I slept in it and only took it off for a shower) very tight to help support.  I couldn't lift over 5# for the first month - lifting caused burning pain in belly & arms.

At 6 weeks, I still have burning in belly when I rise to stand after sitting for an hour or more.  I don't take anything for it.  Seems like I can "stretch" it and it goes away.  I still have swelling and from what I understand it lasts for several months.

I would take arthritis strength Tylenol to help with pain & before bed.  (I also take Rx Klonapin before bed to help me get to sleep).

I wanted to tell you that I took Probiotics (a blend of 10 or so from a homeopathic website) to also put "good" bacteria in intestines that IV and oral antibiotics killed during and after surgery.

Hope you keep progressing.  Blessings.

I am 11 days out. I never had a burning feeling, but sometimes when I got up the first few days it felt like my incisions were ripping open. That went away about day 4. I also did not have a bm until day 4. I take 3 stool softeners at once at night and drink coffee first thing in the morning. That gets things moving for me. If the stool softener does not work, my nurse told me to use a glycerine suppository.

Laura

PS I'm not on any pain meds anymore, not even Tylenol.

Cyndy, how was your blood pressure in the hospital?  Have you taken any Miralax?

Stand up slower!  the burning can be the muscles protesting the fast movement of standing.  The dizzyness on standing is a blood pressure issue usually.  standing up slower will help that also. I had to push the lift chair button little bits at a time to avoid the burning and dizzyness.

If you have still not had a BM add MOM or Miralax, and glycerine Suppositories.  TRUST ME you do not want to try to pass a LARGE BM at this stage of the healing game.  I didn't take the constipation seriously enough and I felt like I was on fire when I had the first BM 6 days after surgery, and had to "Bear down"  to get it to go out.
