HELP I youtubed TT and it freaked me out!
I swear youtube can be my best and worst friend all wrapped up into one. I am having my TT and BA this Friday...three more days!!!! I was feeling calm, cool, and collected until....I youtubed and watched people recovering from their TT. Someone please tell me something ENCOURAGING about this so I can go back to being calm and not freaked out. It scared me, the women looked like she was in so much pain. I'm not looking for someone to tell me this is an easy surgery or painless. After all its a major surgery on your abdomen, its gonna be painful. I just need to hear the positives...Thanks for all *****ply!
I had an extended TT with muscle tightening (anchor cut) - I came home the same day, was off pain pills by Sunday (surgery was Friday) then only ES Tylenol. I had 2 drains that were in for 2 weeks. I went back to work, part time, after 2 weeks. All my incisions healed beautifully, I had 8 1/2 pounds of skin and fat removed, I have gone down 2 sizes in my pants.
The surgery is not easy the first week or so and it is not painless, BUT it was no where near as bad as I had expected it to be. I have NO regrets, even with the huge cost I had to pay out of pocket. This is one of the best things I have ever done just for me and I would do it over again in a heart beat.
Just be prepared to be bored for a few weeks, be prepared to move slow and rest and follow your doctor's instructions completely - you do not want to do anything to impede your progress and healing. And, stay off YouTube!!! LOL
Good luck!!!

Back away from the utube! LOL. Seriously it's not that bad - I was all freaked out too and posted about nerves a week or so beforehand and now it's like....really???? I had a drain for a week and was off pain meds in 3 days. Like someone else said follow your dr's orders and seriously be prepared to be bored! I have a hell of a time just sitting around at home esp. since it's summer and the kids want to do stuff but seriously RELAX. I got yelled at by my husband, the dr, my parents, my friends because I was feeling so good I was doing all sorts of stuff way too soon. I'm ok - no complications beyond being super tired for a few days but I'm on the straight and narrow relaxing now Having this done is one of the best things (besides losing the weight I had put on the last 7 years) that I've ever done - and I was self pay so it wasn't a decision I made lightly. The dr. removed 9 lbs of skin and I have to say for being 35 I'm looking pretty damn good!
Everything will be fine - you're going to be out cold and if you're super nervous they'll give you some stuff to relax while you're waiting in pre-op.
Get some trash books/magazines, have your lap top charged, have everything ready and near where you're going to be relaxing at and enjoy - you've earned this with your hard work

Please read about my experience under BA and TT yesterday and, hopefully, it will make you feel better.
Keep in mind that everyone is different! Just because you saw someone's experience on youtube, it doesn't mean that her experience will be yours - it won't as you will have your own personal experience based on your fears, excitement, anticipation, pain-tolerance and mental attitude. Stay off youtube, think positive and relax!
Wishing you a great surgical experience with a rapid, easy recovery!

Me:
TT/Fleur de Lis scheduled for Aug 8.
I have been a surgical RN for 24 years now.
I have seen it all...the good, the bad and the ugly.
But even I am not going near YouTube. I have done my research.
I come here to listen to people's experiences.
I'm ready.
Not sayin' I will not have a gigantic case of nerves...because I will.
But really...my RNY was painful. I developed a seroma that kicked my ass. I made it thru.
I look at it this way. We all handle pain differently. People here complain bitterly while others cruise thru.
I'm gonna wait and see. And you should too.
Switch your focus. Feather your nest. Get ready. Buy something cute to wear when you are healed.
Positivity!!!
(Um, feel free to throw this post back in my face in a couple of weeks when I start posting my nervous outpourings and YOU are on the road to recovery!! )

Call your surgeon and see if you can get on something for the anxiety for this week... and stay away from youtube!
It is all worth it... just imagine looking down and not having all that extra skin there, it's amazing!
