anyone here minus an umbilicus?
Morning everyone! My pre-op appt is in a week.
Not sure if this has come up here but I'm gonna ask.
I will be having Fleur de Lis/TT.
At my first appt, my surgeon told me that if my belly button stalk is too stretched out, it might not be salvagable...so, I might not have a belly button anymore.
I will see what he says next week. But I wanted to check in with you guys.
Anyone else lose their umbilicus?
Frankly, I don't really care. I will have sizable scarring from the surgery.
I am 47 and don't intend to ever show my midriff any way.
My partner and I celebrated our 15th anniversary yesterday. We met when I was 350. I don't think she will care whether I have one anymore.
And most of all, don't want to risk losing it post-op if blood flow is compromised.
If it is risky...I say "Get rid of it!"
Can you share you experiences with me?
Thanks everyone!!

my surgeon told me there was a possability that he would not be able to save mine if the blood supply became compromised during the surgery. He was able to save it, but as you can see by my other posts today, I am now having some problems with it ( I am 3 weeks out today). The incision has opened up on the right side. I have to go get it checked out tomorrow to see if there are going to be problems because of the open wound.
It may be easier to just tell him to get rid of it.

My TT was 2 weeks ago today - old one was damaged from the middle and down (where all my excess skin issues were). I didn't have any other scars/complications so the dr. made me a new one. It's weird having a new one but he had told me up front if he couldn't make it work I'd be without. Not a big deal if I did or didn't since nobody but the hubby will be seeing that area.
It sounds like you have the right attitude. Good for you!! Honestly I would freak out if I were to lose mine. My doctor never brought this up as a possibility for me. I love my new bellybutton and plan on showing it off every chance I get!!

I have a belly button. I had an anchor cut - so incision above and below belly button. The circle incision around my belly button is really red (not raised) and still draining a little in one area - at 6 weeks post op. It looks pretty flat and not much of a "dimple" so don't know if it will be worth it or not.
I was warned that I might have the same belly button, a new belly button, or none at all depending on what they found when they went in.
I told them to do whatever they needed - but if they left me with no belly button, to be prepared to hear that I'd worn a bikini to the beach (I'm 56) to prove I was an alien.
I have a very cute new belly button. I think I scared them, LOL!

My doctor said the same thing. I have the anchor cut and he was able to save my belly button. Like others, it's still a sore spot and actually started bleeding again this week. I'm 7-8 weeks out. I really don't care if I have one or not but that's just me! We'll see how I feel when I'm totally healed!

I had an anchor and had two sections, belly button down, and a hernia repair right above it. He asked me on consult, I said I didn't care, he said good, cause the blood flow would be likely compromised. So I don't have one. and really, it's no big deal. I never think of it actually. At first, when I coughed, I felt like a nub... not sure how to explain it... but now I feel nothing. And it's no big deal.
