I am five days from my tummy tuck and looking for any advice. Things I should bring to the hospital, or things I might need afterwards. I am so excited, but a bit nervous as well. Any advice, wisdom, or tips would be greatly appreciated! What to expect? So excited this is my reward for all my weight loss success and a gift to me. I'm ready!

Hi!

I'll be 2 weeks out on Tuesday and it's going really well.  I got awesome advice on this forum beforehand because I was so nervous - and really it's not that bad at all!

I got to go home the same day as my surgery since all I had was a TT - my surgeon only keeps you if you have a problem so I was good to go.  I wore some yoga pants with a tie waist and a t shirt from Old Navy which was comfortable, easy to get on, and doubled for pj's that night.

Your dr. should have given you a list of things you needed - I had to have 4x4 gauze but that was it.  I got sent home with a binder on and a spare.  I prebought some Fleezxies since after 3 weeks he wants the binder off more (so I don't become too dependent on it) and me wearing those about 90% of the time for 3 mo's until I'm totally healed.  Oh dr. mentioned if you have potty issues after surgery you may want to get some pills to "help" you go - no straining allowed

I slept in one of those anti gravity lounge chairs (it was hubby's father's day present ha ha) for the first week and it worked out wonderful.  I kept it right by an end table so I had my books, phone, netbook, Kindle, etc. right there so I didn't have to wonder where stuff was or have somebody get it for me.

Best thing I can tell you is DON'T overdo it!  I felt great - like crazy great and was off the pain meds in 3 days - lucky me I didn't really hurt myself but I was exhausted and got a lecture from the dr. about R&R - and the overdoing caught up to me so I really was beyond tired and had to take it easy for a day or 2.

Good luck - you will be fine and keep us posted!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my questions. I found your information very helpful and encouraging. Just want I need five days to my big day! Thankfully I have AMAZING supportive husband and family who make me relax lol. I am glad to hear you are feeling so good, and went home so quickly. I have having breast implants placed the same time, but my Dr thinks I will be able to go home that night as well. I'll let you know how it goes. Again thanks for the advice!

Hi!
Make sure you take stool softeners and have something on hand if you get constipated.
When I showered, I used a bungee cord, the kind with the hook on the end, to hold my drains.
Best wishes and I hope you have a great result and an easy recovery!!
Keep in mind, all the pain is temporary and the end result is so exciting!
