3 days out lbl/bl- potty issues help!!

I had a lower body lift with buttock auto augmentation and breast lift 3 days ago. Amazingly the pain is minimal and I am able to get around by myself. My only issue is pottying issues. I was sent home yesterday with a catheter and I feel like I need to have a bm but can't (and therefore really do not want to eat). Help!!

PS I love the results so far and will post pics soon. I  Dr. LoMonaco (shhhhh....don't tell him...lol). He is truly a miracle worker. My body was truly in horrible shape after losing 200 pounds. He managed to somehow make me look human again.

Are you still able to pass urine through your catheter?  I would wonder if the catheter has moved if the balloon is causing issues re: your bowels.  You really shouldn't be aware of your catheter.  I am wondering if you're just constipated from opiates.  Try some lactulose or another stool softener and eat!!!  You'll not crap out your catheter!  Have you a district nurse that can pay you a home visit to check the catheter?

Yes my urine is still filling up the catheter. I do think I'll push out the cath if I "go"....

If you are taking narcotics, I would definately use stool softners.  Up your non-caffeine fluid intake.  Get fiber intake up.

You may need a laxative to get over this first bm - but keep on stool softners, fiber, whole food (again for fiber) and lots of fluid to keep bowels going.  Some food with good oil may help lube the intestine, too.

Sometimes hot  beverages or a hot protein drink will help.

Of course walking is good.  The catheter shouldn't really interfere with having a bm.

Best wishes.

Laura, I had to take 6 stool softeners a day (spread out) to get things moving  and kept that up for a few weeks.  By the way your pics look great.  Dr. L is amazing, I know!

Hi Laura - I'm 10 days out LBL.  At my pre-op they actually wrote on a prescription the word FIBER in big letters.  As in up the fiber, also said to purchase Colace - an over the counter stool softener.  So I'm very aware of getting extra fiber in, fluids in, etc.  In the hospital they kept asking if I had had "one" yet.  Nope.  Then one nurse listened to my stomach and said "oh, your bowels aren't moving much as all".  Great.  Even though you don't want to eat it is essential to keep getting calories in to aid in healing.  I just had my 2nd post-op today and they seem astounded as to how good I am doing.  My response:  I keep doing what you told me to do.

Hope you feel better soon!!

I took colace with each dose of pain meds in addition to at least 1 dose of miralax daily.  walk around as much as possible (which is obv. difficult right now, i know) and like the others said add fiber. I found that pumpkin did the trick for me for a while when I was struggling with constipation post RNY.
