I am 14 months post RNY...lost 110 pounds and have been looking into plastics. Very depressing! Insurance denied breasts and belly. Anyway, looking around the internet, I see some teaching hospitals that will do the surgery for wayyyy less than other surgeons. I checked out Lennox Hill Hospital in NY,  I am understanding that doctors doing their fellowships are operating on you with teaching plastic surgeons with them. Any thoughts? It kind of scares me, but there is no way I can come up with the money for my arms, belly and boobs. I am going to go for a consult in a few weeks to check it out, but the estimated costs they gave me were so ridiculously low....is it too good  to be true? Lennox Hill has a great reputation. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Sandy

Hmmm. I guess if you're not their first... And I would assume that there is a main surgeon in the room with years of experience, I mean someone has to train the newbies. Well I say go for it. I'm spending 10 thousand for a circumferential life and the arms. And the theighs and Breast implants are scheduled for next year and that's a 12 thousand dollar procedure. Yes it is a lot. Thankfully my old paid off Totota Corolla will not need replaced!

I used the residency program in Houston thru Baylor, LOVED them!  I also went for a consult here in Dallas @ UT Southwestern but didn't like them.  I felt completely comfortable with the program, the main doctor in the plastic surgery dept is in w/you the whole time w/the resident.  My resident was actually in his 12th! year of medical school & graduated shortly after.  I got WONDERFUL results and was well taken care of, all for 1/2 price.  AWESOME!  I would just make sure you feel completely comfortable w/the resident that will be doing your surgery & the whole program.  DeBakey Plastic Surgery Center thru Baylor in Houston has an outstanding reputation.

Good Luck!

I had a consult with the program at Lenox Hill as well, and it was sooo low.  I would have gone there, but they would only do one procedure at a time and I'm just not in a position to continue to take time off from work.

But I agree, the price is amazing.  A key reason for that is that the hospital also charges less for the OR and anesthesia, so in addition to the surgeon's fees being reduced the whole thing is reduced by more than 50%.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I have a consulation on July 19th and will see how that goes. I will defiitely have find out about procedures like Joanna said...I can't keep taking time off from work either...will see if they will maybe do arms and boobs together, and maybe a tt another time...will see what happens..just the thought of it possibly being done is so exciting..I hope all the information is correct!
