Weight Gain Following Plastics

Hello all,

I'm freaking out now. I'm post op following a tummy tuck, breast lift w/augmentation on June 21. I made the mistake of getting on the scale to find that I've gained almost 10 pounds. Is this normal? How did you manage your weight following plastics given the limited mobility following surgery?

I had an LBL on June 21.  My ps told me it's best not to get on the scale for a while.  I have also been told not to worry about calorie intake that my body needs calories to heal.  My mobility right now is about zero but know eventually I will be back to my old self.  Remember that your augmentation has "weight" and if you are swelling at all that would also count towards your gain.  I was pumped with IV's for two days straight along with the meds from the actual surgery.  Hang in there - I'm sure your scale will readjust itself as you heal!

Thanks so much Gracie. I've always weighed myself daily, but you given me some sound advice. I won't worry so much about it now. I'll just concentrate on healing. Hope all goes well for you.

I had my LBL on June 14th.  I also made the mistake of stepping on the scale.  On the day of surgery I was 207. The first day home from surgery (I only spent 1 night) I was 192 and then every day that number went up and up until I saw a 10 pound weight gain at 1 week post op.  BUT I know that it is ALL swelling since the Doc told me he took 16 pounds of Skin and "other stuff" off.  I also did not get my compression garment until my 1 week post op visit.

Now that I am almost 2 weeks post op and have been wearing the compresssion garment 24/7 for a week, I am starting to see the swelling slowly going down, for example I was only 198 this morning.

Don't worry about the weight too much it will be mostly swelling and will go down as you heal.  I had to have MANY, MANY, MANY people tell me that.

RNY 10/14/08 LBL 6/14/11    135 pounds lost, after bounceback regain.  And I am OK with that.  It enabled me to have double hip double knee replacements in the 9 month periond between Oct 2011 and June 2012.

Thanks Anna. It helps to know that this is not uncommon.

Ooooh yeah - I knew what I weighed going in, I knew how much they took off, so I didn't worry about my weight on the scale until I was back down to that number.

It took several weeks, and I did bounce around due to swelling/water retention, but eventually it all worked and yours will too.
