Hello, My name is Julie and I am new to this group. Backstory, I have been as high as 405 in my life, pre op weight 374 and surgery date 344. I am currently at 225 and my surgeon is ok with me losing up until surgery. I have a realistic goal of going into plastics at 185-190. I am 5'10

My surgeon is guessing I have 15 lbs of skin to be removed. Oh and did I mention that i am having my arms done too.(at the same time)

I'm having my surgery at Wishard and my cost is 10 thousand and some change.

This will be the best money ever spent.

AWSOME!!  glad you have a date!  .I am surprised your surgeon is willing to let you continue to lose.  Every PS I talked to wanted my weight to be stable within 5 pounds for 6 months before they would schedule the LBL.

My LBL was on the 14th.  I did not have my arms done and AM REALLY GLAD i did not as I really needed my arms that first week to be able to stand up.  I needed to push on the arms of the chair to be able to get into a standing position since my stomach and leg muscles were way to sore.  In fact my surgeon will not do arms and an LBL at the same time for that exact reason.

Anyway.  Just to give you some perspective on the skin weight thing.  My surgeon said whenever he does an LBL on a patient who has lost 100 pounds or less there is usually only 2-4 pounds of skin to be removed.  I had lost 160 pounds, and He took off 16 pounds but was conservative and only took 80% of what he could have taken.  This is because I have arthritis in my spine and hips and have to be off all arthritis drugs for 2 weeks before and 2-6 weeks after any surgery, since they interfear with healing.  so he did not want me to be TOO tight if the arthritis went crazy while I was healing (walking or standing would have been impossible if I was too tight.)

I imagine you surgeon is probablly dead on with how much skin he will be removing from you it could even be more if you keep losing!

Do yourself a huge favor and DO NOT WEIGHT right after surgery!!  I did, I saw the 16 pound loss, then watched every day as the swelling got a little worse and a little worse until there was 10 pound "gain" from the swelling.  Today was first time since surgery that the number went down.  SO DON:T weight Don't torture yourself!

RNY 10/14/08 LBL 6/14/11    135 pounds lost, after bounceback regain.  And I am OK with that.  It enabled me to have double hip double knee replacements in the 9 month periond between Oct 2011 and June 2012.

I'm so excited that you are feeling beeter. I hope I am as much as a trooper as you have been. You know I mentioned to my surgeon that I wanted to be under 200 before he did my lift and he said " AWESOME, You know your body better than I do, and it is your money so let's schedule it and that will give you the motivation you need to get to your goal."

So that's the plan. To lose a couple pounds a week up until a week before.

I promise not to weigh, just like lapband I expect that weighing after surgery is a bad idea.

Please, Please keep me up to date on your recover. By the way do you have a lift recliner?

It's kind of odd, but when I first got my set appointment..I was full of EVERY emotion..all the way up to last wk. sometime...NOW, I'm just READY to get it behind  me and I'm excited...NO NERVES involved at the moment...THAT COULD CHANGE THE CLOSER I GET...but I have just excepted it will be what it will be...My being nervous and worried is not going to change things..the outcome will be what it is and I leave it in the hands of The Lord and My surgeon...

YOUR DAY WILL BE HERE BEFORE YOU KNOW IT...IT'S FUNNY HOW TIME WILL FLY RIGHT ON BY...
