So here's the deal...

I'm having my LBL in 17 days ()...and my husband will be with me for only three or four days...he HAS to work...WELL, my mom WAS suppose to be there for me when he goes back to work...Today, she calls and says, "When is your surgery.?" I tell her and do you know what she tells me..?!
" Well, I'm more than likely not going to be here, We're going on vacation, and we decided to leave on the 4th and may be gone for a couple of wks."

Soooooooooo, am I going to be able to handle things on my own pretty much..??
I don't have anyone else that can be here with me..Not that I don't' have family, but they really need to work...LONG STORY ON GETTING HELP FROM FAMILY..

I had back surgery three years ago and had several screws and rods put in my back and did AMAZINGLY well...did't need anyone after the first wk....So, I'm really hoping I can handle this on my own after the fist few days...

MY MOM CAN JUST GO ON HER A VACATION...IT WOULDN'T BE THE FIRST TIME SHE WASN'T THERE...

I did it.   Just make sure you have everything.  Medicine etc close by and within easy reach.  I had grabber things because it was impossible to bend over to pick something up that had been dropped or was on the floor.  Go Slow on everything don't wait until the last minute when you think you need to potty.  Good Luck!

Thanks...that makes me feel much better...I have the grabber from my back surgery, so it sounds like it will be pretty doable...

Thanks again...

Do you have the riser for your toilet seat? Maybe have a walker on hand to help yourself get up from bed or a chair? I think you should be pretty good after 4 days. My surgeon said I'd probably need help getting up and down for 4-5 days.

I just had my LBL a week ago, I spent 1 night in the hospital.  SO Wednesday was the my first day home.  Mom stayed home from work.  But I was able to stand up from chairs by myself (I pushed up with my arms on my walker or on the chair arms) and walk VERY SLOWLY holding on to my walker.  IF I had not had a walker I would have needed mom to hold my arms and kind of tug to get stood up that first day.  I also did not sit on the toilet that first day, just kind of Hovered over the toilet.  Mom also took care of Stripping and emptying my JP drains (I had 4).    but Thursday and Friday mom had to go to work, although she only went in half days.  I was all alone for that time.  Everyday it has gotten a little easier to get up and get around.

Make sure you have everything (Water, pain pills, remote, PHONE, etc) close at hand. to the chair you are going to sit in.  Practice getting in and out of it by yourself in those 3 days that your husband is around to help you.  Also practice getting on and off the toilet by yourself.  You should be fine after your husband goes back to work.

Remember if you drop something, just leave it until your hubby comes home, unless you have a grabber.  Don't try to bend down to pick it up.

Thanks for the well wishes.

OH be sure to GET UP AND WALK at least every hour to help keep swelling down. and don't weigh like I did.  you will be much happier not knowing tha tyou have 10 pounds or more of swelling after 1 week like I do!

I'm having outpatient extended tummy tuck tomorrow and only have someone staying with me for the first 24 hours, after that I'm on my own.  Kind of nervous now, is this going to be doable?????

WOW..your time is VERY CLOSE..!! I know you are soooo excited and every other emotion that comes with each thought of what to expect afterwards...

Good Luck to you and may you have an uneventful surgery with a speedy quick recovery...

I'm 54, and for most of my life, I have had to do difficult things pretty much all on my own...It was no problem for me then, but I guess as I get older and the ole mare ain't what she used to be, has me more concerned if... I STILL HAVE WHAT IT TAKES..?!

I just have to remember, God, has always been there for me, even when others were not..I have to trust HE, will be here for me this time, as well...!!

I wish you the best of out comes and for an easy recovery...!!
