Tissue donation?

Was wondering if anyone has been asked to consider tissue donation when having their plastic surgery?  I received a very nice phone call today from my ps office asking if I would consider donating during my LBL.

The musculoskeletal transplant foundation (MTF) uses tissue discarded at surgery for a variety of uses in other patients for reconstruction.  You cannot receive or trade anything of value for donating your tissue, but it is an act (like organ donation) that may help others.

are there any programs for tissue donation that will cover the cost of surgery to remove excess skin

That is an awesome idea! I wonder if all PS surgeons ask that. I would definately do that if I were asked.

Yes I donated my skin from my tummy tuck.

I was asked when signing all my hospital ppw, I donated mine. 

I was and did.   There were two medically organization in my area that asked.  Hope it's helping. 

I did not know this was an option or I would have loved to have donated!  Bummer!

I am going to talk to my PS about it at my follow up on Monday and hopefully he'll start asking his patients about it.

I donated mine - I was told they also use for medical studies - study the fat cells and how they relate to disease, etc.  I really didn't care what they did with it as long as they put it far away from me!!

I asked, and was told that, in my case, my skin was not of a quality to be used by anyone. I had no/minimal fat, so it wasn't usable for that either.

Otherwise, it would have been donated!
