Wake-Up, Wake-Up...??
For all of you that had surgeries that lasted four hours and over...
Did any of you have any trouble being "awakened"..?
(Dr. L..)
If you read this, could you explain why after surgery they may have a hard time waking someone up..? What happens, exactly..?
Thank you, in advance, to ALL..!! :0)

I did spend more time in recovery with my DS as I was slow to wake up. Went into surgery around 2pm and didn't make it to my room until 930pm. The epidural was so much easier than the GA...

How did you do with your WLS, was there any difficulty for you to wake up?
What I did have many times was shivering and being freezing cold when waking up. This last time, they had warmers on me and everything but I was freezing to the point that my teeth were chattering. The anesthesiologist came over and told them to give me Demerol, which took it right away. Not sure how / why.
Hopefully others will have more to say....
My mom always has trouble waking up after anaesthesia, even after short procedures like a colonoscopy - she's really sensitive to it. All that happens is that she's really groggy and just needs more recovery time. She also gets nausea worse than normal. But that's it.

Thank you EVERYONE..
Three years ago, I had back surgery and was in surgery for 5 hours and they told my husband they had a difficult time waking me...I always get sick afterwords, as well...but I have never had any problems with anesthesia, until, my back surgery three years ago...Too, I was much heavier then...about 75 lbs., to be exact...That could have had something to do with it...
My husband never told me this until about two months after surgery, and my surgeon, never mentioned it to me until i said something to him about it, and even then he said it was nothing, that sometimes people handle the anesthesia differently...
I was just concerned and will be talking with my surgeon on the 9th of next month about it...
Thanks for all the responses..I really appreciate it..!!

I will contact my back surgeon's office and let them know I will be coming for any and all information of the drugs used before, during, and after surgery and the anesthesia...
I can't do Codine and Morphine, so I always get Demerol...
Thanks for ALL your wisdom on the matter..!!
